Has anyone used the Anschutz Laser Power system before?
http://ahg.anschuetz-sport.com/index.php5?menu=101&sprache=1&seite=83&produktID=\

I live in a city and was thinking of putting together a run/shoot practice
course with a laser system for when I cannot go into the country to practice
shooting. I'm sure the laser power system isn't as good as actual shooting. But
does anyone know if it is any good at all?
Thank You.
Thanks, Brian. General concensus -- it is legal at most Summer Biathlons in
USA/CAN except the nationals.
The Savage webpage claims the trigger is adjustable from 2-1/2 to 6 pounds.
Regards,
Fred

If it is below minimum weight, then I would say it could not be used at
Nationals. I would make sure that it has a legal trigger. I don't know what the
minimum trigger weight is off the top of my head, but I could look in the IBU
rule book and give you that information if you wanted it. Good luck.

Dear Club/Shop/Organization,
The West Yellowstone Ski Education Foundation is please to announce a new event
for June. On Saturday June 27, we will host a mountain bike biathlon and on

on Saturday is open to all individuals regardless of biathlon experience. We
will offer a Match class division for experienced biathletes and a Sport class

provide their own mountain bike and wear a helmet.
As a new event, we are taking a grassroots approach to get the word out. It

Hello All, new to the sport of biathlon but not to skiing or shooting.
Raced as a J2-J0 and took a couple years off because of college and
work. Growing up, my shooting experience was in the backyard and in
Scouts, nothing competitive. I started to ski again about 4 years ago
and started to shoot again last year.
We are trying to build a grassroots winter program here in MA at
Harvard Sportsmen's Club. They do have 3 summer biathlons every year
though. So we have 4 shooting lanes with actual targets set up!
But anyways, I'll be heading up to Vermont next week and was wondering
if the races at Ethan Allen were still held on Thurs evenings. Saw
that last weeks race was canceled and I no one ever replied to my emails.
Regards,
Chris
Anyone going to the events in Vancouver 2010 olympics? If you are
where are you staying and is it a good hotel. I will be at the
hilton. Any place cheaper or closer?

Here is a translation:
This week, "Izhmash" sent our teams a few dozen rifles for biathlon of
the latest models, manufactured individually for each athlete based on
the level of training and personal wishes. The first rifle will be
winners of international competitions Ol'ga Medvedtseva (Dusty),
Tatiana Moiseeva, Anna Kunayev, Maxim Chudov. Rifles have been
designed and manufactured to order Biathlon Union of Russia.
It is a new model of "Biathlon" - Elite rifle class BI-7-4 performance
09 made this furor among athletes. It differs significantly in design
appearance and original design solutions, which allow to adjust
settings for individual rifle athlete demands. Corrosion and wear
resistance of a new chrome cover with respect to the phosphate is
applied above the black-lacquered not commensurate.
- All of these innovations allow biathlete to be sure that the rifle
at the moment does not fail, and, ultimately, to achieve high results,
- said Head of the sport and hunting weapons, weapons Design Center
Izhmash, developer rifles "Biathlon" Vladimir Susloparov.
Director of Children and Young People's Olympic Reserve School of
Udmurt Republic Biathlon, Olympic winner Alexei Kobelev ordered their
charges to several of these rifles.
- Previous models have demonstrated good performance. Of course, the
new model with improved performance gives great hope, - said Alexei
Kobelev.
- "Izhmash" has long been providing our teams with high-quality
weapons, conducts his service. Considerable efforts today are attached
to enhance the competitiveness of the Russian rifles for biathlon.
Among the priorities are now - to establish its own mobile service
center to service rifles "Biathlon at the competitions in Russia and
abroad - said the general director of JSC" Izhevsk mashzavod "Vladimir
Grodetsky. - Restore old position in providing quality and reliable
Biathlon Russian-made weapons today - matter of honor, a matter of
prestige country.
Hi all, hows your winter been? I see we are at the top here....the no 1
biathlon group on yahoo...how cool is that' I have been ski-n pretty
consistantly at least 1 day a week up here in AK on some pretty good
groomed trails here at the Salcha and Birch hill trails at Fairbanks.
Although we did have a cold snap just after the 1st, -it was to cold to
ski at -40 to -50F everyday for almost 2 weeks. Now its good here again
at 20F with some new snow to. I raced in the #3 Biathlon race down in
Anchorage last sunday on the new Biathlon Range at Kincaid Park. It was
actualy a bit to cold for the race but everyone seemed to finish. The
race was a super-sprint followed immediatly by a pursuit, back to back.
So...a total of 6 trips into the range made for an awesome shooters
practice race.
How about the coverage on eurosport.com ...-thats some good stuf. To
bad we cant see more on our own networks...insteed of poker, lol.
take care'
I'm interested, Has it been used? Does it have the "Sprint" barrel?

I think your very best choice would be any used Fortner in very good
condition. New price ready to shoot at the last listing I saw was
$3400.00. Spend the money on ammunition, when you exhaust the
possibilities of a factory rifle then upgrade to a custom stock for
best fit. Prior to selling my Fortner I used it for biathlon, three
position small bore and metallic silhouette shooting. Selling it was
a serious lapse of judgement on my part.

Happy New Year Skiers!
It has been snowing in West Yellowstone for three weeks straight. We have
plenty of snow on the ground and the Rendezvous Ski Trails are in great shape.
The skiing is awesome, the trail pass is cheap, who could ask for anything
more!
I am writing to give you all a heads up. Due to lack of snow early in the
season, the West Yellowstone Ski Education Foundation has had to change up our
January schedule. We will be hosting the 2009 Altius Handcrafted Firearms
Biathlon on the Rendezvous Ski Trails on January 10th and 11th. I have attached
an invitation with all the details and a registration form for you. We are
looking for volunteers to help out on Saturday and Sunday. If you have any
children, relatives, or friends that plan on attending this weekend but are not
racing, please call or email me. We could really use your help timing, scoring,
at the penalty lap, and just making sure the range stays safe. Sara Hoovler
406-599-4465, info@...
We have moved our second citizen's race, Spam Cup #2, to Sunday January 11 after
the biathlon race. We anticipate an 11am start for the Spam Cup and it will be
a freestyle event. The race entry fee will be $10 for adults and $5 for kids.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation through WYSEF
will receive a commemorative long sleeved t-shirt while supplies last.
Suggested donations start at $5 (this could be the cheapest long sleeved tee
outside of Crazy Dayz and you are supporting a great cause!) A registration
form is attached. Race registration and the start/finish line will be held at
the Biathlon cabin next to the range. Race distances will be 2k, 5k, 10k, &
15k.
We are looking forward to seeing you on the snow in West Yellowstone soon. If
you have any questions, please give me a call at 406-599-4465. Please pass this
information on to anyone who might be interested. Thank you.

I was talking with a member of the executive board of the ISSF back in September
about the Beijing Olympiad and summer biathlon. He said that if summer biathlon
was under the ISSF instead of the IBU it could become an official Olympic summer
sport. He said the IOC didn't want the same international organization (IBU)
governing a sport in both summer and winter games. Then you wouldn't need to
learn to use that sword.

Hi all,
I'd like to get involved in biathlon, but I'm having some trouble
connecting with anyone in my area who is active.
I live in Oswego, NY, and have tried the email addresses for the
Syracuse Biathlon group, but have not heard from anyone.
Is there anyone else out there in the Central New York area who is
active? (I realize it's September, I'm just trying to find some info
before the snow flies.)
Thanks,
Jen

Jen,
Activity will pick up as we get closer to winter. Syracuse Biathlon
usually hosts a biathlon clinic in early December, then several races
through the season. WNY Biathlon usually hosts a race as well. The
clubs provide rifles and ammo for folks who don't have their own.
Schedules will be posted at the NY Biathlon and WNY Biathlon Club
sites, but probably not until November.
Lucky, for you, the clinics and races are held held at Tug Hill venues.
Best,
Frank

Western NY, Syracuse and Saratoga are all active clubs. Here's the
site for WNY: http://www.westernnybiathlon.com/. I don't think there
are any more summer events planned, so watch for the complete winter
