I would like to pick up a rifle that would be good for biathlon
training, but ideally, would be a good multi-purpose rifle for the
woods. Does anyone own the Izhmash Basic Biathlon rifle? Opinions on
how good/bad it is? And since it comes without sights, any ideas how
much it would cost to get a decent set of peep sights put on it? Does
it make sense to spend up for the complete Izhmash kit or an
entry-level Anschutz?
http://www.eaacorp.com/firearms/rifles/targetrifles/biathlon_basic/table.shtml
Also, any opinions on the CZ-452? I know it is not a biathlon rifle,
but I have heard a lot of positive feedback on it. I don't own any
bolt .22 rifles whatsoever, so giving some thought to an inexpensive
rifle that will simply give me some practice trigger time. (Air rifles
are out where I live.)
Thanks!

Just wondering if anyone out there has any info on the specifics of
a Biathlon target, I would like to build one. The only thing I know
is the size of the prone and standing targets.
I got mine from at www.torbjornsport.com. I use the
PRO-SKI R2 Roadskater Rollerski and have been very
pleased. I hope this helps.

Hey there all,
I'm trying to purchase rollerskis for myself and partially for a
group, and I'm looking for prices that won't land me in the $500 plus
range but I dont' want to have crap either.
Anyone got any suggestions for good skis and low prices.

Doug,
Thanks for all your good information. Unfortunatelly i was not able
to go as I wanted to. I hope you had a blast but from the TV, it does
not seem that the crowd was aplenty??

I would check www.skinnyski.com and look under classifieds. I saw a
left handed fortner with all the goodies and an extra Larsen stock
for 1500.00. That is very cheap. If it came down to a 1000.00 for a
russian rifle or 1500.00 for the Fortner...no choice, the fortner is
way better.
Kurt
As of last year Anschutz manufactures a low cost biathlon training
rifle- 64R and 64L. It is available with a 500 or 1500 gram trigger.
Please search this web site for owners comments on the 64R & L.
I own a Anschutz 1827BL and highly recommend the 1827BL for accuracy.
Another choice is the very rare Finnbiathlon rifle that was
fabricated in a left hand version many (15-20?) years ago. Good luck
finding one.
The curent exchange rate between the U.S. Dollar and the Euro does
not help. Watch the exchange rate before you buy a rifle from Europe.
I believe, this makes four left handed biathletes in this yahoo!group.

Since it seems that the only rifles I can find in a left handed model
are anschutz which are way out of my price range, I'm wondering what
to do? Do most left handed biathletes just put up with the
inconveniance? Or are there other options? What do others do?

The best way to get close to the competitors at the World Cup is to
volunteer to help. They are looking for help. Go to orda.org, and I
think that there is a link. I wish that I could stay for that
weekend, but I will be up there to race the weekend before, and won't
be able to get the time off. Hope that you enjoy yourself.
The biathlon site is on the right hand side of the road that goes to the
Mt. VanHo nordic ski area and Bobsled run. The access road is off Rt.73
before you get to Lake Placid (can't miss it). When I go up there I
usually stay at the Econo Lodge in Lake Placid (about 10 min. from Mt.
VanHo). The biathlon is one of the best deals around to see world class
competitors....its free! After you watch the daily event you can go up
the road to the ski area and enjoy the trails. Bring as many people as
you can, the organizers need a large showing of spectators to ensure
future events in this country....at the Senior Nat'l Biathlon last month
I don't think there were more than 20 spectators per day. Hope this is
the info you are looking for.

I started winter biathlon in upstate NY with the boys at the Syracuse
club. I moved to Maryland and would like to get back into things. Due
to the lack of snow I am forced to drop the skis and pick up my
running shoes for summer biathlon. I am looking for anyone interested
or has information about summer biathlon in Maryland. I don't mind
traveling but I do need to sight in my rifle, find somewhere to run a
few laps and get the local knowledge about biathlon. You can reply to
this post or e-mail me with any info. Thanks a lot and I hope to see
you on the trails.

Gary and I wish to express our Thanks to all who have been part of
Brett's life. His 11 month battle with Melanoma (Skin Cancer) with
courage and determination. His last month was spent in reflection and
comforting those around him. We especially appreciate all the cards
and letters we have recieved from the Biathlon Community. We
especially enjoy the tales you all have to tell about your experiences
with him.
His death to skin cancer did not have to happen, but we believe it
happened for a reason. In the future you will be hearing more from us
about detection and prevention of Melanoma Skin Cancer. Early
detection and treatment results in a cure!
Thank You

My condolences on your families loss....I may be mistaken, but I
believe I sold him my Anshutz rifle back in '95... I am truly
saddened to hear of his passing. He was a fine young man of which you
could be proud of. May he rest peacefully...

Has anyone had experience with the Faezon ,Eko Aim ,or Apeom/CZ

eventually be required in the sport, due to safety concerns with live
ammunition?
thanks for your insight and experience, it looks as if

I have used a 7-4 for the last 4 seasons. The cold weather accuracy
problem is caused by a combination of ammunition, and the cleaning
oil changeing viscosity in the barrel. To eliminate this concern, I
now use Wolf Ultra Match Target. I had mixed results with RWS,
especially in very cold conditions, Lake Placid, Val Cartier for
example. The most important thing to do in very cold conditions is
to run a dry patch through the rifle about 15 minutes prior to the
time you start your event. This removes any buildup that is in your
barrel after the zero. If you have any questions about the 7-4 e-
mail me at Baroquebryan@.... If you do the right things to the
Izmash it is as accurate as any Anschutz that I have had the
oppertunity to fire.
Does anyone know where I can find an older, used
Eberle stock that would fit an 1827 bolt action
Anschutz?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

rb,
The only place I've had luck with in getting parts for the
Lakefield/Savage is Numrich Gun Parts. Their phone number
is 866-686-7424 (toll free) and they have a website -
www.gunpartscorp.com. This was the only place I could find
replacement magazines. If you have the part number of
the cover they should be able to look it up quickly. Even if you
don't they were able to look up the magazine part number for me
after giving them the rifle type and serial number. The person I
spoke with was very helpful and patient (unlike Savage).
Good luck!!
