Left Hand Izhmash 7-4 Demonstration Rifle   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #502 of 607 |
Hello,
I am fortunate enough to have picked up the Russian American Armory
Company as a sponsor and the deal includes a left handed 7-4 rifle.
RAAC is the importer of the Izhmash rifles. The website is
http://www.raacfirearms.com/ . If you contact them ask for Clyde.

I plan on attending races in New England, Lake Placid and Saratoga
this summer as best as I can. If there are any LH shooters who would
like to try the rifle please let me know and I will make an extra
effort to get to the event. Even if your not a LH shooter (coaches or
just curious) and want to try the rifle please let me know and I'll do
what I can to get there. I train with the Ethan Allen club and will be
at the club races which start up this Thursday.

The LH 7-4 has a LH stock but the same barrel and action as a RH 7-4.
To allow a LH shooter to cycle the bolt, the rear bar supporting the
thumb knob has been replaced with a longer bar which crosses the rear
of the rifle to the LH side. This longer bar uses the same pivot as
the RH so there are no extra parts or places to become fouled or to
clean. I'll post pictures in a day or two. The thumb knob is attached
here. This makes the cycle backwards compared to the RH rifle. To
cycle the LH, the shooter pushes the knob forward with the thumb and
retracts it with the first finger. Sounds weird but not so much in
practice. When your used to shooting a RH rifle from the LH side it
feels great and it took me about 100 rounds to stop thinking about it.
Now it feels very natural. My range times have dropped considerably
just from having the ability to cycle the bolt w/o resetting each time.

Any questions please feel free to contact me. Kevin
