Re: First Ski Purchase

Any reputable ski shop should be able to provide you with a pair of skis that
"fit" you.
While there are requirements for length, width, etc, the most important will be
the flex or
stiffness of the ski. This will be based on your body weight and the type of
snow you
generally ski on.

As bar as brands or models go, they are all pretty much the same. All the major
ski
companies make good skis, and it just becomes a matter of personal preference.
One
brand isn't really any better than the other. Personally, I generally avoid the
top of the line
models, and buy the mid-range skis. For almost the cost of one top of the line
pair of skis,
I can get two pair of mid-range skis (that were probably top of the line a year
or two ago)
that will be most likely a bit heavier but perform just as well. Then you can
have a pair for
hard pack and soft pack conditions, or for me it is good snow and bad snow (rock
skis).

If there are no good retailers in your area, a few to check out would be:

Reliable Racing
New Mooon Ski Shop
Eagle River Noric
Gear West

Good Luck!
