Re: Biathlon North America Hydration During Race?

I've never seen any water taken during a race either. Figured I
should ask in case it was the result of editing for TV.

I've been talking with Craig of the Utah Biathlon Club and some folks
at the Washington Biathlon Association. Craig has been very helpful,
and I feel like competing in an event is much more likely than when I
tried this a couple years ago.

I live in Tucson Arizona, and I'm pretty sure there's nothing local ;)
Utah and Colorado are close enough, and I sometimes travel to
Washington, so there's a chance I can compete in a couple events next
winter. I just have to wait for the events to be announced and see if
I can schedule the travel.

In the meantime, I'm doing my best to make up for 10 years of
sedentary living and turning to this forum for the answers to some
novice questions.

races are generally short enough that we can get along by hydrating
well before the race, and immediately after the race. It's all over
pretty quickly and seconds count. If you are taking time to stop for
a drink, someone else is passing you! Only the individual knows what
his or her body needs, and I certainly would not advocate going
without liquid if you are on the course for a long time. The World
Cup level folks are across the finish line a lot sooner than any of us
club level racers.... and I've never seen one stopping for a drink
during a race on OLN. Anyone have information to the contrary?
