Hello Biathlon Fans and Athletes,
(If you do not wish to receive these updates, just send me an email and I'll
remove you from the list)
Recap of the '05-'06 Winter Season in Washington State
We had a great season with more races than ever, and many new biathletes
joined us in both the Methow Valley and at our home course at the Stevens Pass
Nordic Center. A season points list was kept, with the medals being awarded at
the final, March 12th race. Dave Anana took the gold in the men's division with
an untouchable 318 points, followed by Steve Eastwood who took silver with 305
points, and Jay Bender in third with 277. Anana shot impressively toward the
end of the season with his first completely clean race, and a few others in the
90 percentile. Carol Stuhley, with 342 points, continued her domination of the
women's division, but is being chased more closely now by Sibylle Wilbert, who
took second, Robin Pederson in third. Chris Fletcher, the lone Jr. male took
Gold in his division, but is really putting pressure on the old guys (yes OLD).
We are dragging him to away races more next season! For full results, look here:

Summer Racing just around the corner!
We have finalized our Summer biathlon schedule for 2006. Mark your calendars
and start your training for running! We will have four races at our Summer
range, the Seattle Police Athletic Association in Tukwila, WA (South Seattle
suburb). We will also have two races in Yakima, thanks to Joe and Carol
Stuhley. All of our new targets are completed and, for the most part, ready to
use (see below)... we'll have at least ten-lane ranges at both Tukwila and
Yakima!
We'll start the season with an "Introduction to Biathlon", similar to the one
we had in January for new biathletes. All of the experienced biathletes are
encouraged to participate in this event to help train new people "one on one".
You will be rewarded with some range time for yourselves later in the day.
Contact Jack Seabrook (jack.seabrook@...) or Jay Bender
(jay@...) if you can help out on this day. We really need your help
for this event. Please commit to help instruct, if you can.
5/20 - Intro to Biathlon - SPAA
6/3 - Sprint - Yakima
6/17 - Mass Start - SPAA
7/22 - Pursuit - SPAA (based on 6/17)
8/12 - Sprint - SPAA
9/9 - Individual - Yakima
Race fees will be $25 per race, $20 for WBA members. If you are not a WBA
member, why not?! Go to www.wabiathlon.org and get your measly $25 dues in and
save $30 just during the summer series.
WBA Range Work Party and Barbeque - May 7th!
There is much to do at SPAA to get the course and targets ready for Summer
racing. Targets need to be cleaned and painted. New target uprights need to be
installed in order to raise targets above the level of a new berm that's been
constructed on our range. These new uprights will also dramatically simplify
target set-up and allow us to do away with legs that never seemed to be level.
We'll be starting at 9:00 am. Bring your work gloves, a lunch, and something to
throw on the grill later on. We will provide the grills and charcoal, and some
cold drinks. We need a lot of people on this one, not just the 4 or 5 usual
suspects. We need to do this work in order to have a Summer race series. You
DO want to have a Summer of biathlon racing, don't you?!
A number of us will also be working at the range on Saturday, May 6th, so if
you can come and help out then, please do!
We look forward to a great WBA Summer of biathlon in Washington State!
