Are you looking to do summer biathlon or winter? If summer, the only
crossover is the running. In winter you have to be able to ski as
well. IMHO most local winter competitors don't work enough on the
skiing, they try to become a good marksman, then when their HR is
high after skiing at a max level for 10-15 minutes they can't hit
much. So in other words, biathlon is very much about quick recovery.
I do a lot of ski/shoot or run/shoot intervals.
But, I encourage you to check out an event near you. Summer is a good
time to get your rifle cert from USBA and get a feel for the
sport...all though I believe winter is the "true biathlon".
