What a great Spring Blitz we had! The largest participation ever,
capped off with the largest attendance at the Spring Blitz Dinner
ever!
A big thank you from both Mary and I for all the help we received in
putting this event together. Thanks to everyone who helped on the
registration table at the dinner. Thanks to Debbie LeVon for the
great road map to organizing this event. And thanks to all the folks
who jump-started their cycling season during a beautiful month of
March by setting and goal going for it!
And… A couple of apologies; one to Nancy Fish who missed our date
change for the dinner and another to Chris O'Connor who made it to
the dinner but somehow didn't make it onto our mileage announcement
list. Nancy, we missed you and Chris, belated congratulations for
meeting your Spring Blitz goal.
If you didn't make it to the dinner, we have prizes for you. Mary
and I are working out the logistics of getting them to you. In the
meantime, email us and we'll work with you individually.
maryeuretig@... or mhansen52@... .
Thanks again for the great participation in Spring Blitz 2008!
*Mike and Mary
I would also trust Doug at Rex Cycles..downtown, or Steve (formerly at
Bicycle Business) at Bicycle Chef.

Hi,
I have had work done on my bikes at both the Bicycle Business and at
Carmichael Cycle. Steve is the owner at Carmichael Cycle and he is a Bike
Hiker member. Both shops have done good work for me.

Well, thank goodness it's not the Bee's annual it's the bike riders fault article. If they write tickets they need to ticked those teens riding longboards down the trail from Beales Pt to the Walker Bridge.

After some discussion amongst the moderators, we've taken Ken's e-group rules from the SBH website and revised them a bit into a letter that will be sent to members periodically. Since BHForum is an unmoderated message board, there are fewer rules, but many of the Bikehikers e-group rules are applicable. Without further much ado, the rules are....

Welcome to the Sacramento Bike Hikers’ Yahoo Group!
This message is sent to all subscribers upon joining as well as every quarter to the entire list. The group primarily serves club members, though membership in the club is not a prerequisite to joining the groups. The purpose of the BHForum e-group is to provide a forum for general discussions, commentary, and other topics of interest to the club, cycling community, or individuals. Additionally, news and information presented on Bikehikers e-group may be redirected to this forum for a more in-depth or personal discussion.
The BHForum e-group is an active group, and you may find a lot of "chatter" going on that may not interest you. There are a couple of alternatives, if you don't want your email box filled with chatter. One is to turn off delivery of email altogether, and the second is to get a daily digest. Both can be done by logging into the BHForum group at groups.yahoo.com and clicking on "edit membership." Either way, you can still access the message archive at the group site and read only the messages that interest you.
Also, bear in mind that while messages in the Bikehikers e-group are moderated, the BHForum is generally unmoderated. Please observe the rules (see below). The moderators will take action if the rules are broken.
1)No Flaming - on or off-line. Be civil to each other.
2)No cross-postings.
3)NO chain letters, virus alerts, political
endorsements, or copyrighted materials.
4)KISS -- Keep It Short and Simple. Trim quoted material, and keep your signatures short. Be sure to trim your post when responding to another post.
5)Use an appropriate subject. Summarize your post in the subject. Descriptive subjects get more attention.
6)Use discretion. Post prudently, and send private emails when appropriate. The e-group basically is rated PG-13.
7)Please minimize attachments as they may or may not go through. If you have several attachments, post them to the Files or Photos areas of the e-group.
8)Set your email program to submit inline text. HTML or other formatting works very unreliably and sometimes will not come through at all.
9)If you are posting something for sale, or otherwise
looking for private answers, put your email ID in the body of the message. Yahoo filters out the last letter of your address in order to inhibit spam robots from picking addresses out of the archives.
Thanks for joining our group and we hope to see you on one of the club rides soon.

I know there are at least a few riders on the list that have also done this big event ride over the years. Apparently the local Chamber of Commerce and the Alta Alpina Bike club have parted ways. The Chamber apparently owned the rights to the name and this is a big money-making event for the community. I won't post the full text of the press release here but if you're interested it is at the link below for your perusal.

In any event we'd love to get mileage reports from the following people, so if you're out there or you know someone on this list, have them get in contact with me at mhansen52@ comcast.net or 916-849-2883:

Ooops... In all the excitement of tabulating miles, I forgot to let all
you Blitzers using BikeJournal know that you can move your miles back
to the club or whatever other places you may log them. Go for it... If
you need any help doing this, let me know.
*Mike

I am looking for 5 to 10 bicyclists and bikes to attend a rally on the steps
of the capital for State Parks. As I suspect you have heard, there is a
threat of closing a number of parks due to budget problems.
We are looking for people that can bring their bikes a bit early (by 11 AM)
and use them as props as a backdrop on the stage area ,there will be all
sorts of recreational toys like tents, surfboards, kayaks, hiking gear etc.

Hello Blitzers,
We have begun to slowly post results for your Herculean efforts in
March. We updated a bunch more mileages this morning and will be
posting more this evening. Be patient as the four fingers with which I
type are slow…

Hello Blitzers! Now that March is over, we begin the arduous task of
tabulating the numbers and we need your help…
BikeJournal users:
1. Make sure to get all your Spring Blitz (March) miles logged on
BikeJournal by midnight 4/2/08. On 4/3/08 I will print the list of
mileages and online participants and begin transferring the numbers
to our tabulation lists. Make sure that only Spring Blitz (March)
miles are logged to the club designation; Sacramento BikeHikers
Spring Blitz 2008. If you begin logging April miles to this club,
your Blitz total may be inaccurate.
2. I'll begin posting stats at
http://www.michaeljhansen.com/SpringBlitz2008.htm on 4/2/08. Check
the list and make sure it matches your records. If it doesn't, email
me at mhansen52@... .
SnailMail/Paper log users:
Two options:
1. Mail your paper log to Mary Euretig at 2340 Hurley Way, #36,
Sacramento, CA 95825. It must be postmarked no later than 4/07/08 to
be acknowledged.
2. You may also email your totals to mhansen52@... and retain
your paper log for your own records.
Amazing Blitzing everyone!

Is anyone doing the STP ride this year? Rick van Wyngaarden, someone fairly new to riding, is looking for others that might be going up this year. His email is included above if you want to contact him or if you rode in past years and have input/advice. (and we always do, don't we?)
I've also invited him to come out and try a ride with us.
