Subject: Save the Date for Reno’s Sierra Challenge Century
SAVE THE DATE – October 25, 2008, for the Sierra Challenge.Procrastinating Pedaler member and friend Charlie Dodson is creating an event that I want to be successful. He's gathered an impressive team of local riders and enlisted the help of Chris Dumas of the Bay Area Chapter of the ALS Association to put on a metric century for Reno. The metric route is indeed a challenge with a loop around and over Geiger Grade. The start and finish of the metric, and 10 and 30 mile versions, will be Bartley Ranch. There will be great food and music after the ride, too.The motivation to create this ride stems from Charlie Dodson's 40 year friendship with Patrick Sammons, now suffering with ALS. Coincidentally, Patrick's son Kyle is in Reno on a scholarship from the UNR football team. When Patrick was diagnosed 4 years ago, Charlie started attending ALS sponsored cycling events and became part of the ALS family. At each event he was inspired by the humor, patience, composure, poise, and dignity of the ALS patients and their families, traits that he admired in his friend Patrick. This inspiration and admiration now has led him to create the Sierra Challenge Century. For us Reno area bicyclists, this means that we can contribute to the good work that the ALS Association does and have a Century to call our own. No fundraising is required to join the ride but it certainly is not discouraged. Proceeds from the ride will benefit the ALS Association and the services they provide to local ALS patients. Of course, the more money this ride makes for the ALS Association, the more likely that it will become an annual event that we all can enjoy. So, put October 25th on your calendar to join Charlie and me on a challenging ride called the Sierra Challenge.Register to ride the Sierra Challenge at http://www.ridetodefeatals.com/If you have any questions, give me a call at 775-287-7142 or Charlie at 775-324-6152.Thanks,Terry McAfeePresident, Procrastinating Pedaler of RenoP.S.
