Yesterday's ride was a lovely jaunt down the shady Minnehaha Parkway to Lakes
Harriet and Calhoun, in a breezy, sunny mid-70s of a summer day. We traveled an
average of 13.5 mph or so, taking two hours to ride about 23 miles (with a nice
little break at Lake Calhoun). We even saw a few other Bike Friday riders out
on their little wheels; folks I hadn't met before!
Next ride will be this month-- possibly a Friday-Friday-Friday (which is a
Friday evening ride on a Bike Friday to a TGI Friday's restaurant to eat
appetizers and socialize), or perhaps a weeknight ride on a Wednesday (June 17
or 24 are possible dates).
Interesting events coming up this summer include the Nature Valley Grand Prix, a
series of pro racing events on June 10-14 in the metro area and southeastern MN,
as well as the Tour de Tonka, an organized, supported bike ride of several
different lengths around Lake Minnetonka on August 1st.
Happy riding!
Cheers,
Christina
Hello, friends, a sharp eyed rider pointed out that I'd forgotten the time:
noon!

(Last summer I got pretty swamped with all of the other summer things I do.) I
would love to coordinate more rides this summer if you're willing to partner
with me on legwork. One of our group members has some experience leading
rides-- it's possible we could get so organized as to be able to rate our rides
(so you know what kind of ride we plan to do each time).

Hello, Bike Friday owners and interested folks!
Our first Bike Friday Club ride of the season will be Sunday, May 31, departing
from Minnehaha Falls Park. You don't have to ride a Bike Friday to ride with
us. In fact, if you want to play with one, chances are that one of us will let
you try one out.
We'll do an easy route out to Lake Harriet and back. Speedy riders desiring a
longer ride can ride ahead to loop around Lake Harriet and/or Lake Calhoun.
Please meet at the parking lot by the Pavilion (the lot is pay parking but the
street parking is free). Note that the Minneapolis marathon is also running
this day; you may experience traffic delays coming to the park.
To identify the group, look for a redheaded woman wearing a Bike Friday jersey,
on a blue Pocket Crusoe.
Please come with proposed rides/dates in mind for additional summer events.

I've seen one interested response (regarding riding together tomorrow at the Mpls Bike tour).
If you are interested, please pipe up. I will be on call tomorrow and will not be able to ride in the tour, but I am happy to coordinate so that you can ride together!
Cheers,
Christina
PS I glimpsed a Bike Friday rider on campus today as I went in to work. Purple, I think, but I didn't realize what I was looking at until I'd passed the bicyclist. The bikes are becoming more well-known, indeed!
It sounds like a lovely ride, but I am starting at a new school this year and am in perpetual overwhelm. I'll have to pass on this one.
Last week was surreal. My commute goes just north of what was the no-mans land of the NRC. On Tuesday, I was stopped two times by police, once by 20+ riot police in full gear!! They went through everything on my bike and trailer!! Thursday I had to go an hour out of my way to get around the hoopla at the Capital at 94. It's as close as I ever want to come to a police state!
Hope this finds you all doing well and perhaps I'll see you at the October ride.

Hello, everyone!
The weather is getting cooler-- I may have to stop riding to work in my sandals! However, that just means it is a beautiful time to get out and ride in comfort.
How about riding together in the Minneapolis Bike Tour? This will be held on Sunday September 14th.
$35 for preregistering by early Sept, $42 for registering on the day of the ride.
Margaret & I are interested in riding our Bike Friday tandem on the Mpls Tour with others from your group.
Thanks!

No problem. Julie wants to go and the two of us could ride even if
no one else is available. I just didn't want to miss a ride if one
had been planned.
Perhaps we could begin to plan the August ride? Perhaps you could
pick the weekend depending on your 'on-call' schedule?
For tomorrow's (Sunday, July 27) ride I suggest that we meet at
Mississippi Market Coop at Selby & Dale, early afternoon. It is only
2 blocks from my home and everyone could pick up something to eat, if
they didn't have their own eats already.
It's just a short trip down to the river and the ride along Summit is
very nice. Hidden Falls park is just off the bike path along the
Mississippi.
Stalwart types can bike up Ramsey Hill (about a 45 degree grade) if
they want a challenge.
My phone number is 651-292-1978. Please forward this to the group if
you can. I'll try to figure out how to do it, but I am still
learning!

Hello, everyone!
I apologize! I've let July slid past me in a hum of warm summer days, and this coming up weekend happens to be the last weekend that we can call "July".
Diane would like to get out on a Bike Friday club ride sometime this weekend. If you are available and would like to go, please respond!
(I am on call and therefore not available for a club ride this weekend, but please don't let that stop you!)
Cheers,
Christina
PS if you know anyone who would like to be in on these club rides, please have them join our Yahoo group. Bike Friday ownership is not a requirement.
