A message from Richard Harber richarber@....

Greetings!

Hope everyone is riding and enjoying themselves. I am again riding in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure to raise money to support the fight against diabetes. In addition to riding, I've also taken on the challenge of being the chairperson for this event.

Diabetes:
* Affects the lives of over 200 million people worldwide
* Changes the lives of almost 21 million people in the United States
* Is the fifth (5th) deadliest disease in the United States
* Is one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood

I'll again be going the longest distance (76 miles) in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure fund-raising event in Tulsa, OK on May 17, 2008. The Tour de Cure is a series of cycling events held in over 80 cities nationwide. The Tour is a ride, not a race. I have joined thousands of others to pedal in support of the Association's mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

I am asking you to help by supporting my fund-raising efforts with a donation. Your tax-deductible gift will make a difference in the lives of the 20.8 million Americans who suffer from diabetes and the 40 million people in the United States with pre-diabetes.

It's fast and easy to support this great cause - you can make your donation online by simply clicking the link at the bottom of this message. If you want to do even more to help, please consider joining me in this great event. Our efforts will help set the pace in the fight against diabetes.

Any amount, great or small, helps in the fight against this deadly disease. I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

More information on the American Diabetes Association, its programs and diabetes in general can be found at the Association's Web site: www.diabetes.org

For more information on Tour de Cure, please visit www.diabetes.org/tour.

If you'd rather simply mail me a check made out to the American Diabetes Association, send it to:

Thanks for your support!

Ric

In two weeks we have the last "formal/organized" event--at least in
the Tulsa area---the Oklahoma Centennial Trek. This ride is
officially sanctioned by the Oklahoma Centennial Committee and will
be filmed!

The ride will start at the OSU campus in downtown Tulsa at 08:00 am.
Routes range from 19 miles up to a full century. The century route
will be composed of two loops. The first going out through Mohawk
Park (including a ride through the zoo I'm told) and McClure Park.
The second loop, which will be used for all the other distances, will
head out to the old North Road (think hills) out to Sand Springs and
up to Skiatook. The final 20 miles back from Skiatook will be flat,
following the Osage Trail. The full century route will pass through
something like 9 of Tulsa's parks since the organizing sponsors are
the City and County Parks Departments.

I look forward to seeing some more Bike Fridays at the start, on the
route or at the finish!

Regards,

Ric

Well we're entering the season of a number of formal rides in Tulsa...

5 May...The Tour de Tulsa
12 May...Tour de Cure (Diabetes fund raiser)
June 2-3...Tulsa Tuf (up to century rides/tours on each day)

Are any of you planning on riding in any of these? If so, I'd love to
meet you or get together.

After early June, formal organized rides here seem to get scarce, but
start back up in the fall. The big once off event this year is the
Centennial Ride on 20 October. I'm trying to get a number of BF riders
to come out for this ride and perhaps we can get some of the folks from
Oregon to come down.

Anyone have any preferences on when we might try to get together for a
BF ride?

All the best and keep on riding,

Ric

Where: Riverside Skate Park, West Side of the Arkansas River off 21st
