Dear BF Club of SA members,
My attempt to convince Cycletour that the Bike Friday is unconventional was not
sucessful. The management committee "agreed that the bike looks like a
conventional bike – no fairings, etc." Also, it wasn't a recumbent.
I have left the matter there, but am willing to resurrect it next year if there
is enough support.
Regards
- Gerhard

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the reply. You've got to still be really quick to get into the top
100! All the best.
I also fear that bike fridays might not be judged unconventional enough to start
in the unconventional category.
Unfortunately I did not get around to asking Cycletour prior to the entries
opening, so I assume that it is too late now. I have to enter this weekend;
don't wantto miss out on my 16th Argus!
Keep well and good training.

Hi Gerhard,
This probably wouldnt suit me as i am still one of those speed freaks who trains
hard trying to break personal best times before i get too far over the hill. So
its probably racing tandems again for me if I can persuade my son or someone
else to stoke for me in another flat out attempt to get into the top 100.
However as far as i recall there is still an unconventional group as we have in
the past seen them starting just after us early on. They include the guys on
recumbents/hand cycles etc. I dont think the Bikefridays are unconventional
enough to join up with them though.
Good luck with your efforts nevertheless.

Peter
Hi Bike Friday South Africa members,
I have always ridden the argus in my normal seeded group. Haven't thought that
riding at the front of the race in a small group would benefit me at all.
However, riding is no longer about getting the best possible time. After an
enquiry from Clive I have thought that it won't hurt to lobby Cycletour to bring
back the "unconventional" category to anything that isn't a standard racing or
mountain bike.
I have ridden pleasant Argus'es starting slowly and being picked up by a faster
group, rather then trying to stay with my original bunch. So I would give
starting in unconventional shot.
Your opinions?

So Gerhard, have you had communication with Leon? Leon are you reading this?
I am sure we can have both put your smiling faces up there as co-leaders.
Leon's a bit more of a quiet person (he says) so it's good to have the two of
you so you can reply if he's traveling to the UK or whatever which I think he
does a fair bit. Send me a pic of you and your Friday to lynettec@...
with the data you see in the leader's box at
http://www.bikefriday.com/clubs/southafrica and I'll put it up.
Now, if we could just get Bill Horn to join, that would make it a complete
family. It's not complete without Uncle Bill! Oops, I mean, Bill. :o)
I will try and coerce him to join once more by sending him a special YAHOO
invitation. You can actually invite (even join) people with a non-yahoo email
address under "Invite".

"Hi Bike Friday owners
I am the owner of a Pocket Rocket Pro.
I worked in the cycle trade for many years and understand the problems of
sourcing quality 20 x 1.75 tyres.
I have persuaded the Continental importers in South Africa to bring in some Tour
Ride 20 x 1.75 tyres.
The price would be approximately R 130 depending on the exchange rates.
Conti told me that the shipment would arrive in about 8 weeks from now.
Inner tubes with presta or schrader valves are always available because 20 x
1.75 is BMX tyre size.
