Dear Bob: The starting point for the ride is in Tukwila, at the
Tukwila Community Center, and the ride goes to the Kent Valley.
There is a URL for the directions to the Tukwila Community Center in
the Cascade ride link I sent. It is not a live link, so the
information must be copied and pasted into the browser.
The ride will be going from Tukwila thru the Kent Valley first on
the Green River trail to downtown Kent then back to the starting
point via the Interurban trail. I do not know the exact routing
that the ride leader will be taking, but there is a spot on the
Green River trail when it meets up with the Interurban trail, just
south of downtown Kent, which is a good point to head back north
into Kent for a snack. It is a very pretty ride along the river,
really flat (some very small up and down sections here and there,
nothing that ought to cause anyone any worry).
I think it will be fun, too! I hope other Bike Friday folks can
make it!
Hoping for blue skies and no rain!

This ride sounds like fun.
What is not apparent, to me, is the start point.
IS this ride in the Kent Valley or to the Kent Valley.
It would be fun to ride with some other tiny wheels.

What's this about a talk by Lynette at the Apple
store? Please state the time, date, and location. Is
this the Lynette of bicycling in Cuba fame?
Also thanks to Marissa and Franklin for organizing an
event where I can look forward to meeting other Bike
Friday owners.

Let's get together for our first 2007 group ride! On June 30th at
9:30am (weather permitting), I'll meet you at the Cascade Bicycle
Club's 25 mile tour of the scenic Kent Valley and Green River
trails. Here is a link to the ride information:

eventID=8618
Cascade has a ride waiver form that you must sign. Here is what the
form looks like:

If it ends up that our BF group wants to ride at a slightly faster
pace, we can always split off. I'm familiar with the area trails,
so I will be able to get us back to the start of the ride, but
that's not necessary as the trails are fairly well marked. I hope
to see you there!
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Marissa
Thanks Don, that's a great tip!

Seattle Fabrics on 87th and Aurora in seattle sells 2 sided velcro by
the foot.
it really helps to hold things together when packing, especially
folding parts of bikes. and it is easy for TSA to remove and replace.

We're new to the group as well. Like Bob we live in North Seattle, however
are only available at this time on week-ends. Our profile for rides is
similar to Bob's as well.
Due to out-of-town work commitments we probably won't be available for rides
until late June. We are taking our Bike Friday XL Traveler tandem on a trip
to Scotland in the fall and are really looking forward to some tips from
other BF riders. Please keep us on the list for any rides and we'll join up
as we can.

Since I'm new to the group I'm somewhat relucatant to take on any organization, especially since I don't know what level would be suitable for the group, or even generally where people live. I'm assuming that to be inclusive, we should organize a relatively short, moderate pace ride in a reasonably central location.
If everyone who is interested sends me their general location (eg, n. seattle, kent, redmond etc), what a reasonable distance for you would be (including how averse to hills you are), any route ideas you have, what days are good for you, what time of day works best, I would be willing to try to put something together that worked for everyone (or at least most everyone).
Here is my info:
I live in N Seattle, near sand point, my frequent rides are:
North end of the lake
South end of the lake
Seward park out & back.
Edmonds loop
Alki out & back.
Duwamish/green river - interurban loop
I'm up for anything from 20-80mi and I don't mind hills at all.
My typical pace is 14-16 on the flat.
I'm available most any day
I prefer not to ride early in the morning.

Hi all: Welcome to all the new members! I hope that you're all getting out to ride! I've finally finished physical therapy on my knee and am now riding again. :-)
Heads up a couple of items: 1) Help needed for group rides: I gather that many folks would like to get together for a group ride, but for many reasons, I haven't set up anything. Would anyone be interested in organizing a group ride? Feedback on where the ride should be and how long would also help planning! Thoughts? Takers?
Would folks be interested in a group ride on either June 30 or July 1, somewhat in conjunction with the LPA conference? The conference is being held at a hotel near SeaTac airport. Dan Okenfuss from LPA (picture on the BF website) said that the main conference activity is probably going to be July 3-5, and conference attendees will probably too busy to do a bike ride during the week. There will be folks from BF manning a booth at the LPA conference.
3) Would there be any interest in a non-riding get together such as a potluck? I was thinking it would be fun to have Lynette, Walter or some of the other BF folks attend on a trek north (maybe in conjunction with the LPA conference or not), maybe we can ask Lynette to give a presentation on her latest adventures!

Your feedback is helpful!

Hi all:
I have not been on my bike at all the last few months, and I tweaked
my knee while out skiing a couple of weeks ago. But with the nice
weather the last few days, I would like to get back into bike riding.
One of my thoughts was that we get together on an easier ride. Here
is a link to Seattle Easyriders. There are two short rides at the end
of March (one in the Kent Valley on 3/24, and one in Carnation on
3/31). Do any or both of these sound interesting to you? We could
end up and do lunch somewhere after the rides, which could be fun,
too. :-)

I have been out a few times and the trails are in good shape.
I would be real interested in getting together with a group.
If others would like to come out and do some riding my group meets
in Redmond on Wednesday evenings. Just email me back and I will give
you directions.
We are a performance group but in the winter it is a pretty easy pace.
Cheers,
Bob

Do any of you know an owner of a BF Tandem or Triple who might be
willing to let a prospective Seattle-area customer look and/or ride
it? (and of course, this would include extolling its many virtues :-
)) If yes, I have contact information to share with you. Thanks!
Hi Seattle-area Bike Friday owners!
Happy New Year! I hope that you're having a great year, and that
you weren't dreadfully affected by the windstorms, snowstorms,
rainstorms and other bad weather. It was hard for me to think about
bike riding when the roads in my neighborhood were littered with
downed trees, powerlines, branches and other debris. But now that
things are getting slowly cleaned up, it's time to start thinking
about riding again.
Any suggestions for a future bike ride together or other event?
Where do you like to ride in the local area? Any days of the week
better than others? Anybody doing Chilly Hilly? Has anybody been
out riding lately? I haven't taken my bike out since the storms, so
I'm not sure what the status of the various trails/roads is, but it
must not be bad in all areas since I saw folks riding last weekend!
Looking forward to hearing from you all.
Best wishes and safe riding,
Marissa Singleton

you care about these words.
Hi there,
I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have spent the
last 10 years of my life as a refugee registered with the UNHCR in Beirut. The
last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for peace and human rights (especially
refugees and asylum seekers) on the Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks
publisher. I have launched many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees
in Lebanon and hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I
helped make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I used
the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more about that in my
free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and could be download from my
sites.
This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating actions of
the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and human-buttons to collect
money. This is an abuse of the dignity and humanity of the refugees and must
stop immediately and a clear public apology present by The United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees. My friends, I am talking about the pictures you can
see here:

Where you can read the rest of this message as web page.
Also you can read my new campaign 'Urgent, we need smile' here:

For more info about UNHCR and life of refugees you can read my free ebooks. I
invite you as fellow humans and members of the world community to support my
campaign by reading my article on my site and see the human-buttons. The
campaign is to support and improve the UNHCR http://www.unhcr.ch especially
after the last scandals in the UN and UNHCR, just for example:
The refugees allege that UNHCR staff is selling most of the food items they are
supposed to be supplied.
"They aren't supplying sufficient food to us because they sell most of the food
items," they allege: http://allafrica.com/stories/200503140214.html

Hi Bob,
Lynette @ BF here. Well, BF clubs are a kind of voluntary loose organization
held together in
the tenuous web of cyberspace. I set them up to be self-managing. Some clubs are
very
active, like the Boston club, which rides regularly, but most, and especially
the Seattle club,
seem to be simply a central place on the internet to be connected if and when
something
comes up. And the leader Franklin is pretty busy but I'm sure he'd appreciate a
chance to
have a chai latte with an enthusiastic BF person!
BF folks seem to be the busiest people I know, even though most are retired! And
it does seem in all clubs that most people are waiting for someone else to
organize a ride.
So, if you feel inclined, announce a place to meet, and I am sure some folks out
there will put
their hands up to join in. Right Seattle folks?
Thanks, Bob for being a joiner.
Lynette
Since joining this newsgroup I have not received any messages.
Looks like postings stopped with a SPAM about a year ago.
Is the Seattle Bike Friday group active?
If so when and where do you meet?
Looking forward to hearing from you all,
Bob

Mary, that Friday is my flex day as well. We could make a fun morning of this.
Please meet
me at the bottom of Rainier Vista on the Burke (there is usually a bike support

there). WE can ride to Fremont where there will be this spectacular organized
ride
downtown over Dexter - we could have breakfast with others that join us that
morning!

I am definitely interested in grouping up with some BF folks on Bike to
Work Day. Interestingly enough, I don't work on that Friday, so I
could join up with people wherever is a good place to meet. I live in
Alki, so I'd be happy to ride in from there - or I could go over to
meet up with Franklin in the U District.
Mary D. - New BF owner
I am interested in riding the Flying Weels Century and the Seattle-to-Portland
Classic (with
optional shorter distances) in June and July with other Bike Friday owners. On
Seattle-to-
Portland, I will be a two day rider.
Bike Friday owners who plan on registering for these races can we coordinate at
least starting
the rides together. I would love to meet you and share the joy of riding with
smaller wheels.
Frank Furlong
Maybe like you, I am a bicycle commuter. This year for the third year I have
organized a team
of 10 Bike-to-Workers at Washington State Ferries to participate in the Group
Health
Commute Challenge. Our team name is "The Ferry Whistles". You can track our
mileage and
standing in the Challenge at http://www.cascade.org/Education/btw/
btw_report_tripsdaysmiles.cfm?teamtype=grponly&init=1.
Consider forming a team of your own at your workplace (if you are not retired
yet! :))?
I am interested in organizing a ride into downtown Seattle from some location
(Ilive near the
UW) on Bike to Work Day, Friday May 20? Anyone else intereested?
Over 80 BF owners worldwide have registered with Bikejournal.Com to form a Bike
FRiday
Club. The goal of the "club" on Bikejournal.Com is to collectively log 250,000
miles of riding.
I am a membver there and set a goal of riding 3,500 miles this years through
organized
rides, commuting to work, and individual rides. As a member you'll get an
opportunity to
post an individual profile (take a look at mine, I put alot of though into it)
and participate in a
lot of other activities.
I find that keeping a record of your miles is a way of motivating yourself to
accomplish your
own cycling goals and participate with a wider circle of like minded cycle
owners and
enthusiasts.
There is no charge for recording your milease at Mike Journal though you can opt
for a small
paid membership. Please let us know your login ID, if your join up so I and
others can add
you to our "buddy" list.
Ride on!
Frank Furlong
Bike Friday owners everywhere welcome Mary Douglass to the joy of riding her new
Bike
Friday, a Pocket Llama.
I was happy to meet Mary and a friend of hers one evening recently on a referral
from Walt
Lapchynski at Bike Friday in Eugene. She took a spin on the Burke Gilman Trail
near my home
in Seattle and decided a Friday was for her - and it just arrived.
Mary is a member of this forum so as members get added please send her a welcome
message.
Maybe if we all ask, Mary will send or post a photo and description of of how
her new Llama
is outfitted.
Hi Seattle folks,
Well, after a great start everyone got busy so this message board feel
into a bit of a lull ... now new leader Franklin Furlong would like to
kick start the club and get together for some great rides. Remember,
anyone in the club can suggest a ride and post to this board. Don't
just rely on your poor leader to do it all! Potlucks, travel slideshow
evenings, as well as rides, are all fair game. So encourage your BF
friends to join this board and start riding. Little wheels make you
fly!
