Dear folders and the non-folding-but-game ...
May 16 is the TimesUp FoldsUp Fest:
http://www.bikefriday.com/events/foldsup
- details pasted below. My job demands I be there but I cannot
(GRRRRRR every other weekend til end of June I'm in school - yoga
teacher training - oh why did I do that?).
I notice there is a 16" wheel bike race. The tikit would surely kill
it unless Lance is doing it on a Brompton :o)
Anyone game to try?
If you're small enough and game enough you're welcome to borrow my
pink size small tikit for the day.

We hope that this event will give you some ideas with respect to both overall self development and to improvement of your cycling skills. In the interim we wish you health and wellness !!!
Proud to say that NYers have bought um... almost half of them. What for? be seen a museum mile away, then look good leaning on a mojito later. Proudly and loudly made in the flagging NY Garment District - yep, this Aussie is doing her bit for "Made in 'merica" (apart from paying taxes).
Please read that even if you have no interest in the bag. Just doing my bit to stimulate the local economy - and fund my weekly pineapple from WholePaycheck, sorry, WholeFoods.
Oh yes, headsup: my film http://www.bikefriday.com/roundup07 will screen May 5, 6.30pm at Bike Month, Walter Reade Theater, 165 W 65th Street, upper level. Its between Amsterdam & Broadway. I'll be there dinging my bell etc and answering questions about the BF tikit I'm told. I'm just back from Colorado showing folks stuff like how biking is doing in NYC - they were all curious, so I showed them this:
I will be shortly posting a video of the entire consult and bike fit with him at Boulder Center for Sports Medicine if anyone is interested. Features me standing there in my underwear (and a PACTOUR jersey thank Buddha) because I forgot to put on bike shorts!
What else? I FaceBook'd that I was sent a GIANT box of Honey Dijon Mustard Kettle Chips when I complained that my 9th Ave corner store (called Ha Ha Fresh - cute huh) - couldn't get them. Please come on over, BF Clubbers, and get a packet off me. I like them, but not THAT much. In fact, I think I prefer Buffalo Bleu now ...
Come join us for AngelRide! AngelRide is a 130 mile, 2 day charitable cycling
event held each Memorial Day Weekend. This year's ride is May 23 & 24. The ride
spans across scenic north/central Connecticut then ends at the shoreline in
Mystic. At Angel Charitable Trust, our mission is to help children with cancer
and other life-threatening diseases by opening windows of happiness during their
most intense periods of treatment. We do this by sponsoring "Camp in a
Suitcase," a hospital outreach program that entertains and supports children
during their periods of hospitalization. The "Camp in a Suitcase" program,
administered by the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, connects these childrens'
extraordinary spirit with the magic of a summer camp experience. This year we
want you to share this wonderful experience! For more information to ride,
volunteer, or donate, please visit www.angelride.org

To My Bike Friday Friends' & Co-owners-
All are invited to our General Meetings on Wed Evening March 11,2007 & Friday Evening April 17,2009..
At close of contest today, there were 34,000 entries from 80 countries including the Vatican (like I said, heaven is no match for the Hamilton island).
Just 11 people will be interviewed - including 1 people's choice. That's the one that gets the highest rating.
So please, would you go rate it on the above link before March 2?
Why? This would be huge boost for Bike Friday and folderdom in general, even if I only make it to the shortlisted 50. This is the real reason I did it - it would simply be great and much-needed PR for the small, shoestring and altruistic Eugene company that makes a serious travel bike - and has been my employer since March 2001.
Here's how I made the video (a couple of evenings really hard yakka on my 12" laptop) in my blog:
Thank you ... and comments welcome on the blog. Oh, I listed myself as a New Yorker, which is a real trip since it's a Chinese face with an Aussie voice yammering on the video! Oh yeah, if I get the gig you can come and hang with me on Hamilton.
Can you please introduce yourself to us all again ... your elevator speech. I guess we've all been super busy, I've been traveling, so it's probably why you haven't had anyone show up. And it would be good to explain what you do by day that would help us relax about why you ride only at nights, because right now I'm scared you're some kind of cycling vampire, who might sink your fangs into my tires in a dark underpass if I was to show up without a giant bodyguard like John Chiarella. :o)
So please tell us who you are, and why you make even more spelling mistakes than me when you type ;o)
(Erm, try not to be offended by that, but since I set up these lists I'm responsible for making the Friday community feel at ease, and when someone makes a lot of typing mistakes, we assume they're riding and typing at the same time and therefore hazardous on the cyclepath).
:o)
Lynette
PS Oh yeah, not sure if I shared this but re that Island Caretaker Job that has 23,000 applicants and closes today - I had a shot at it - spot the fricasseed guinea pig from the Peru bike trip, and please log a YouTube rating, even if you hate it :o) - it's just 1 crammed minute:

Sorry to accidentally include the BF Club of NY in my Valentine's Day social bleat, after explicitly promising I wouldn't clutter this list with non-bike related chatter.
Of course, any of you are always welcome to join in whatever I am proposing, but one thing I strive to be, is my word.
So, to make THIS post bike related, here's a bit of a vox pops with a multiculturally correct Superman about folding bikes that I shot a few days ago:
If you're at a loose end, this is an impromptu invite to hang out in Chelsea.
I am also using it as an excuse to celebrate getting my self-petitioned Greencard which I shall brandish like a Chesley Sullenberg medal when you walk in the door (despite the erm, tanking economy).
(respectful space to hit 'delete')
You could come round say 6pm and we could share my newfound addiction - a bottle of the elderflower sensation, St Germain!
It's solidly booked with valentining couples, but the daybed area down below is always free, my favorite spot in the whole place, we can spy on people going in for the kill ...
For dinner, I could serve a pot of massamun coconut vege curry with rice, and treat you to my home made truffles and more cocktails (assuming the bottle of St Germain wasn't scarfed earlier in the piece).
RSVP so I know how many for dinner. If not enough people spring this, we're doing the crawl anyway. Dave and I will go eat at the Green Table in Chelsea Markets at 6.30pm, and you're welcome to join us (not as cheap as my cooking) and do the 3tarts and Buddakan or something else after.
Also...
I have a Chelsea Equinox (I calls it 'exec-quinox) week long pass to give to someone who would use it - except most of you don't live in Chelsea , but it's easy to get to from the UWS on the bike path or across town.
Cheers hope to hang out with you if not this time, some other time (I have a Settlers of Cattan game night and Anime night brewing ...).
I went along to a meeting for the first time as a new member of this club.
The talk was all about their rigorous, methodical yet fun training and riding programs (10 weeks), all free to members.
"I don't know if you'd be able to ride a folding bike," said a B leader rubbing his chin. "I've never seen a Bike Friday do any of the Spring Training or Special Interest Groups, ever."
Aha! Who's up to the challenge? Erm, I guess I should get my Pocket Rocket Pro shipped even though I'm riding the tikit mostly - because I'm able to leap tall buildings with a single fold - here's proof in the picture here:
I've just realized after 2 years I've been inadvertently sending social invites to the BF Club of NY list too - and most of you are probably not interested in anything that isn't directly related to Bike Friday or folding bikes or cycling.
If you want to be added to my personal NY friends list, just shoot me an email at galfromdownunder at gmail dot com.
I will only be emailing biking related notices to this YAHOO group from now on. No more wine and sex lectures for you!
Sorry to have added landfill to your inbox.
If you also want to be removed from *this* BF Club of NY list you need to go into YAHOO groups and unsubscribe yourself: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bfclubny
Some more relevant stuff:
1. Here's a little video I put together to show what it's like for this NON bike messenger to ride a tikit in Manhattan:
First, let me know if you want to be removed from my list.
I've *completely* screwed up my NY 'friends' vs 'frenemies' vs 'foodies' vs 'bikers' etc lists and now it's too hard to pick through it each time saying 'nah, s/he wouldn't be interested...'.
No offence taken whatsoever and I *hope* I have not offended you.
Just type 'adios' and hit send, and you won't hear from me again (except if I run for president and they make a stuffed doll of me wearing J-Crew)
Otherwise read on ...
(respectful space)
We've already got quite a bunch coming to the Laugh Lounge/Tuck Shop Friday (tomorrow) 8.30pm. (Original invite pasted below).
BUT leafing through a current TImeOut I saw this: Dr RUTH talk: "A Perfect Valentine: Wine and Sex", from 6-8pm!
I remember flipping through a tiny 'Romance for Dummies' mini-book written by her and thinking the advice was hilarious, Germanic and sage.
Veteran sex therapist Dr. Ruth may be an oldie but she's still a goody. She'll be at Bottlerocket wineshop dispensing her expert advice and talking about her new book, Dr. Ruth's Top 10 Secrets for Great Sex: How to Enjoy It, Share It, and Love It Each and Every Time. Even if you don't have a pressing sex question, just go for the free wine!

We were pretty impressed last time - hosted by comedian friend and biker, Grant Cooper. If you're interested in joining us, let me know and show up at the door at 8.30pm. Free entry as part of Bike Friday owner Colleen McGuire's group but you are asked to buy at least 2 drinks ($8 buys 2 orange cranberry sodas). Afterwards, we could revisit the Tuck Shop like last timehttp://www.galfromdownunder.com/blog/cheapnchoosy/tuckshopnyc
Grant is one of the most original voices, talents and exciting performers ever to grace the comedy stage. We at Laugh Lounge are lucky to have him as our house MC for our LOL in the LES and Red Eye shows. He wows audiences every weekend.

Friends ... a group of us are revisiting the Laugh Lounge again this Friday, 8.30pm, 151 Essex St LES.
Afterwards, we could revisit the Tuck Shop like last time http://www.galfromdownunder.com/blog/cheapnchoosy/tuckshopnyc
Grant is one of the most original voices, talents and exciting performers ever to grace the comedy stage.
