My sister is looking for a second hand folding bike --- B F or otherwise.
She’d like an inexpensive version, like around $300 or so –
as this is her first one and she’s still not sure yet and doesn’t
want to invest a lot of money. If you have something for her,

Free Bike Fridays on Governors Island
Contact: Wiley Norvell 1 646-873-6008
Release Date: 06/04/2008
Transportation Alternatives Sponsors NYC's Only Free Bike Program
Since opening to the public in 2007, Governors Island has fast
become one of New York City's premier cycling destinations.
Now, Transportation Alternatives and the Governors Island
Preservation and Education Corporation are proud to announce
Free Bike Fridays, an initiative to provide free bicycle rentals
to visitors on Governors Island this summer. From June 6th to
October 4th, visitors will be able to rent bicycles free of
charge on Fridays at the Bike and Roll bicycle rental station
on Governors Island.
Free Bike Fridays is the only free bicycle program in New York
City, and will serve as a model for encouraging bicycling at
other major parks and destinations.
"Transportation Alternatives is thrilled to sponsor Free Bike
Fridays this summer so that thousands of New Yorkers can
discover the joys and efficiencies of bicycling in a safe,
car-free environment," said Paul Steely White, Executive
Director of Transportation Alternatives.
"Biking is a fantastic way to explore Governors Island," said
Leslie Koch, President of the Governors Island Preservation and
Education Corporation. "We are thrilled to have free biking on
Governors Island this summer so that more visitors than ever can
enjoy biking in the middle of New York Harbor."
Funding for Free Bike Fridays was provided by an anonymous
Brooklyn donor. On Saturdays and Sundays, adult and children's
bikes can be rented for five dollars for 30 minutes.
Hi Funsters, well from my periscope over here in Sydney I got the full monty on the folding bike frenzy in Philly last weekend.
The tikit won the folder class in the Manayunk Wall Hill Climb and dared to enter the Pro/Cat 1/2 section of the Time trial ... and did pretty respectably overall considering ...
NY folding bike dealer David Lam was toppled from his perch by Dahon after winning the fast fold showdown in 2007, but I'm sure he had just as much fun - I'll let him fill you in here...

The Fold has infiltrated the Festival! We now have proof ...
Features a movie about the Tour de France and doping by Pocket Rocket owner and award-winning MTV film director Nigel Dick, plus my Round*Up clip you've all seen a million times - but there are many more millions who haven't ...
Thanks to Andrew McGettigan for his timeless shot of David Lam in action - it's featured on the Festival webpage for Program 10.
Pass on the link and let the tikit rule the fold ...

Bicycle Film Festival
Various Venues Wed 28 - Jun 1
by Dan Avery
Time Out New York | 22-May-2008 - 28-May-2008
It'll never reach the level of Sundance or Cannes (or even
Tribeca), but the Bicycle Film Festival, running Wednesday 28 to
June 1, does draw some of NYC's culturati -- and they come for
the love of the wheel, not to kiss Harvey Weinstein's posterior.
At the Bikes Rock kickoff party at Studio B on Wednesday 28,
Blonde Redhead drummer Simone Pace conducts a live score to
JĆørgen Leth's 1974 speed-record documentary _The_Impossible_
_Hour_, while the Dear Velo art show on Thursday 29 is hosted by
vintage preppy Andy Spade.
Bat For Lashes's Natasha Khan -- or her celluloid personage,
anyway -- is on view on when the band's video for "What's a
Girl to Do" screens as part of Fun Bike Shorts on May 30 (think
Donnie Darko on Schwinns).
But the biggest name on the program is actor Matthew Modine, who
appears in the activist doc Bicycle Stories later that night.
Turns out the _Birdy_ star has been a cyclist since his salad
days: "I used to sneak out of my parents' house and ride to
my girlfriend's place," he says. "We lived in Imperial Beach,
California, and biking home with the salt and wind in the air
kind of completed the sensual experience." The founder of
the advocacy group Bicycle for a Day, Modine will also share
favorite movie clips featuring two-wheelers at "Bike Scene It"
on May 31 -- including, possibly, a curious snippet from his
1992 sailing movie, _Wind_. "We were filming in Utah when a
sandstorm came in. We couldn't shoot what we planned so the
director, Carroll Ballard, said, 'Let's film the storm,'" Modine
recalls. "No one was sure what to do, so I just hopped on my
bike and rode down this desert runway through 70-mile-an-hour
winds, using my shirt as a sail. It's a beautiful sequence."
The RoundUp07 movie http://www.bikefriday.com/roundup07 featuring the tikit winning the tongue-in-cheek fast fold showdown, will show in the Bicycle Film Festival Sunday, kicking off in NYC, June 1. Here's the program. Last year the fest screened to 100K people.
Share the news, tell your pals to show up with their Fridays!

Highlights include the bicycle crazes of the 1860s and 1890s, a milestone
court case for cyclists' rights, standing-room only Six Day Races at Madison
Square Garden, and technological and social changes aplenty. Sponsored by

I would like to ask if you can help me promote an event that I am
leading this coming August 5th, 2008. It's an event to promote peace
among are growing number of teenagers who are turning to guns and
gangs to solve their personal differences. This event is a bike ride
beginning from the Manhattan side of the George Washington Bridge and
will end at Ivy Hill Park in Newark, NJ where we will hold a candle
light vigil and recognize all the victims of senseless gun violence
that is occurring withing our communities.
As for myself, I am advent bike rider and I frequently ride my
bike from NYC to Philadelphia each summer. I have ridden and
marshaled the Five Borough Bike Tour as well as joined with Critical
Mass along with Transportations Alternatives. Promoting bike safety
and other environmental issues. So I am asking you to please help
promote this cause which I feel is very dear to me. The reason why
is because last summer on August 5th, four young teenagers who were
inside a school playground listening to music were gunned down
execution style for no apparent reasons but what is believed to be a
gang initiation. These were four young kids that did not have any
criminal records and were enjoying their last months of summer
vacation before starting college. This crime made national headlines
and shined the spotlight on teenagers who join gangs and use guns to
solve their personal differences. I am asking all of you to please
help me promote this ride
among your groups and organizations. My goal is to get as many as
50+ riders to join me in this cause.
Name of the event will be "Ride for Peace" and we will meet rain
or shine at 6pm on August 5th at west 178th street and Cabrini Blvd.
in manhattan At 6:30pm, we will begin our ride to Ivy Hill Park in
Newark, NJ where we have a candle light vigil for last years victims
as well as the many other innocent victims throughout our
communities. So could you please post this in your upcoming news
letters and help me promote this cause. If you'd like to see the
video promoting this event, click on the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzBE9fhHoHs . Your help will be
greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
David M Torres
I am thinking of getting some Ortlieb Sport Packer Plus panniers for my BF NWT (for the front rack). Has anyone had any experiences with this pannier (good or bad) in terms of how they attach to the custom front rack and overall quality, usefulness, etc.? Any thoughts, opinions, other recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.
