Hi BF Club of NYers...
The Galfromdownunder is heading your way. My Handsomest Man in Cuba
book starts Sep 1 in Burlington VT and ends Oct 10 in LA. Anyone doing
the NYCC? Mike McGettigan of Trophy Bikes in Philly wants to get us
all together doing the 35 miler (see details below). I might be able
to do it, in which case am looking for a host for Sep 11 and 12 in NYC
- anyone want to give low maintenance me a roof - anecdotes dispensed
in authentic Aussie accent!
I am talking to Bicycle Habitat about a possible talk that weekend or
perhaps a week later.
I am pasting the itinerary below (with some explanatory notes first
you can skip over) but it can be viewed at any time on
http://www.bikefriday.com/bf/handsomestmanincuba
The full printable press-kit is
http://www.bikefriday.com/bf/handsomestmanincuba
Let me know... I do believe that Messers Jeff Vogel and Doug Nervik
have spoke of the coming of the Galfromdownunder...
Please reply to lynchiang@...
Hope to see you all - tell everyone to come to my talks!
Hi Handsomest People,
Just an update on The BIKE FRIDAY/HANDSOMEST MAN IN CUBA tour
itinerary. This covers NORTHEAST COAST, SF and LA. If this goes well I
plan to do PDX/SEATTLE/VANCOUVER, SOUTHERN STATES and SOUTHEAST tours.
So if you are not in the East Coast, SF or LA, this is FYI in case you
would like me to present to your audience in a future tour.
To be removed from this list shoot back a 'nein danke'
1) *NEW* TOUR POSTER/FLYER: Now a ready-to-print flyer tailored to
your event location! I am customizing each one with the details of
your location so you can just print it out at will, at what ever size,
and spread the gospel. At the moment I have only done Philly and Rhode
Island. Take a look under http://www.bikefriday.com/bf/cuba-press-kit
Rob G, John D, please let me know if the details are correct. Others:
Send me the exact details for your particular location, time etc. - if
you want to use the poster, that is.
2) You can see the overview of the tour on the site
http://www.bikefriday.com/bf/handsomestmanincuba
but a more detailed one showing my somewhat ambitious movements (gulp)
is below. I am going to need help and advice with some of the
getting-around at least in terms of how best to do it. Remember I'm
gonna have that bike in a suitcase...
3) At every location I hope you can supply me with an old-fashioned
style slide carousel projector. I am simply bringing a box of slides -
a projector would be too unwieldy and would not fit in the suitcase!
4) As you can see I have a lot of free time in SF and LA. I hope I can
find a productive way to fill those days, making contacts etc.
Unproductive is OK too (did I say that?). Note that I will be back in
SF Nov 5-10. Hoping to make some appointments for that time. So I'll
welcome being able to stay in your home in SF and LA if you can handle
a low-maintenance guest.
5) Some have asked if I am charging a fee for my presentation. I would
simply like as many people as possible to come and for the media to
know about it, which is why I made a press kit for you to hand out and
flyers for you to print. Let me know if you want me to send you a
press kit ready made, and how many. As I am doing this largely at my
own expense, a couple of places have generously offered to help defray
my travel costs up to $150. If you can contribute anything I would
appreciate it. Thank you so much for your help.
6) The books: I would ideally like to have your local small bookstore
order copies and make some money for themselves, by ordering the books
from Bike Friday at 40% discount. Otherwise, I am going to probably
have ship a bunch to each of you.

Hi Handsome folk:
You're getting this email because I recently chatted, joked, pleaded,
or cajoled you in the nicest possible way into helping the Handsomest
Man in Cuba show his face in your area - or I might have asked you to
review the book, stock it, interview me or you offered to put me up for
the night ...
This email is a heads-up on the current state of play. If you want to
be removed from this list, please shoot back a 'nein danke'.
PRESS KIT: I've create a complete downloadable, printable press kit for
the tour. The BF Club of Rhode Island leader Rob Giovino requested a
flyer/poster with a place to write in specific location details. It's
under 'Slideshow poster/handout' at
http://www.bikefriday.com/bf/cuba-press-kit
TOUR SCHEDULE: http://www.bikefriday.com/bf/handsomestmanincuba
East Coast Sep 1-20: Several East Coast dates are now done and dusted,
and I am now sending out review copies of the book to media contacts
you've given to me at Fresh Air, the Philly Inquirer - etc. More
welcome! As of 1 minute ago I was speaking to the Bicycle Habitat owner
in NY about a presentation there in conjunction with the NY Century on
Sep 12.
San Francisco Sep 23-7: I can now turn my attention to this area. Have
just had confirmation that the Bike Friday team will be heading down to
the Sacramento area to partake in the Valley Spokesman Bicycle Club
weekend ride from Dubin to Sacramento and back. (I'll be presenting my
200-image Mexico by Friday slideshow to them. but selling the Cuba
book. Yes! Another riveting show you can sign me up for!). So I will be
contacting the Libraries etc I have spoken to recently to firm up
dates. Please email me if I do not get to you first.
LA: I have just one appointment here, for the Cycling Connection on Sep
7. I welcome more leads on that as I shall be making my way from SF to
LA between Sep 23 and Oct 7.
Oct 26-Nov 4: I'll climbing the world's highest paved road of Peru
16,000 feet on my Bike Friday with the Lon Haldeman crew. Watch for the
story. See the trip here: http://tinyurl.com/5rq33
Nov 5-10: I'll be stopping over in SF on the way back from Peru for 5
days just because I can. I am available to do interviews and a talk
then - please email me if that fits with your plans.
Thanks for reading this breathless update. If you want to be removed
from this list, please shoot back a 'nein danke'. I won't be offended.
Hasta pronto...
