Before when I used the suitcase the standout was sometimes a problem.
It would be out of position and not protecting the bike when I opened
the case at the destination. This year, going to
Paris and back twice I put some of those little sticky-thingys that go
on the bottom of your shower on the flat ends of the standout. It was
in place and protecting the bike every time when I opened the case. I
probably wouldn't even need to take the rear derailleur off but I still
do.
