Hi Boulder Folders! I've been flat out like a lizard drinking (as we say
downunder) since visiting you back in March.
I was very sorry to hear that Longmont Cycles closed. Buzz and his staff were
such great people. I hope it wasn't my slideshow that jinxed it. I hear
University Cycles are interested. Can't remember if I visited them...

Not sure if you saw this, but "the full kneedown" of my bike fit and consult
with Andy Pruitt in technicolor and surroundsound is now on this exclusive page:
http://www.bikefriday.com/bikefit

And the visit is at http://www.bikefriday.com/colorado

Hope to see you all soon. Thanks once again to Jeff and AK, Tom and Dianna (in
Denver) for treating me like family. They even let me sleep in! That Dushanbe
tea house will send me broke, Jeff!

All,

Dana, thanks for getting the ball rolling here. The idea of another Boulder Folder ride has certainly been on my mind, but the sirens of yard work have been stealing my weekends by sweetly singing about vegetable gardens and spring planting!

Looking at my calendar, it looks like this Sunday morning (5/24) is the first chance I'll have to get a ride in. If there is interest, we can plan for it. Is there interest? Otherwise, I won't be free again until June!

BUT, my absence should not stop anyone of you from organizing a club ride through this email list! Please do. Pick a date and time and email the list!

Thanks,
Jeff

Boulder Folders,

Ahoy! This is the big week of Lynette's visit. The details are summed up in the
official flier from Bike Friday (see link):

http://www.bikefriday.com/images/email/2009-03-colorado/

I hope many of you can make it up to Longmont to not only meet and hear from
Lynette, but to also meet Buzz and the rest of the staff at High Gear Cyclery
(our closest Bike Friday Dealer!). Having a shop that is familiar with our
Fridays is certainly nice to have nearby.

I certainly encourage a carpooling effort for the talks and rides from Boulder.
So, feel free to send out messages to this group if you need a lift or can offer
a lift... or you could ride!

Apparently, Lynette still needs to track down a screen for her presentation. So,
how many of you have access to one at work? Or perhaps you have a dusty one from
the slide-projector days in your basement? If you have one to lend, please
contact Buzz at: buzz@...

And please share these events with anyone that might be interested.

And if your email address is in the CC box above, please, please, PLEASE read
the message below. Thank you.

Thanks,

Some administrative stuff:

You likely noticed the large list of people that our Boulder Folder emails go to
in addition to the bfclubboulder yahoo group. I understand from our previous
club leader (Jeffry) that some of you requested to not use the yahoo group and
just use private email addresses. As result, I have inherited a mass of email
addresses (in addition to the yahoo group). Some emails work, some don't... It
is a bit of a organizational nightmare.

So, unless you are strongly opposed to yahoo groups, I would like to strongly
encourage everyone to join our yahoo group rather than use individual emails.
There are a few reasons for this:
1) It is harder to keep track of people not on our yahoo group. We don't want to
lose you!
2) If you are not on the yahoo group, any replies you send to our messages will
not be sent to people on the yahoo group.
3) I encourage all other club members to plan rides as they please, but this
very difficult to do for people that are not club heads if everyone is not on
our yahoo group.

So, I need a few things from each you...

IF YOU ARE IN OUR bfclubboulder YAHOO GROUP:
Great! Thanks.

IF YOU ARE IN OUR bfclubboulder YAHOO GROUP, BUT...
... your are in the CC list or got this email twice. Please email me back (not
the group) at wrettubj@... and let me know so I can remove duplicate
private email addresses.

IF YOU ARE NOT IN OUR bfclubboulder YAHOO GROUP:
Please, please, please join it. You will need a FREE yahoo login to do so, but
go to http://groups.yahoo.com and search for our group (bfclubboulder) and join
us. NEXT, please email me back (not the group) at wrettubj@... and let me
know so I can remove your individual email address from these emails (that way
you don't get the email twice, and I can shrink the "additional addresses" list

IF YOU ARE NOT IN OUR bfclubboulder YAHOO GROUP, BUT DON'T WANT TO JOIN OUR
YAHOO GROUP:
That is fine, but please email me back (not the group) at wrettubj@... and
let me know this is the case. Keep in mind that you will be much easier to lose
track of this way, but I will do my best to keep you in the loop.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Boulder Folders,

Great news, Lynette Chiang, the famous Bike Friday Customer Evangelist is coming
to visit.

We will worry about the exact details later, but for now mark your calendar with
the following:

***Thursday evening, March 19th: A gathering at High Gear Cyclery in Longmont
(our closest Bike Friday dealer). Lynette will be giving a presentation, and
there will be snacks and refreshments!

***Saturday March 21: Boulder Folder Club Ride with Lynette. We will decide on
the exact route later, but come on out for a cruise about town and a stop
somewhere to give Lynette a taste of some local Boulder grub.

It is hard to believe that Lynette has never visited Boulder before, but it is
true. Let's make sure we get as many people as possible out to support her and
Bike Friday!

That said, if you cannot make either event, but want to meet up with Lynette:
She arrives in town on March 15th, so feel free to contact her about times that
work for you to meet with her individually.

Folks,

I'm landing in Denver March 15 (as soon as I hear from Campus Cycles)

I've teed up a presentation at BF dealer in Longmont

http://bikefriday.com/dealers/highgearcyclery

Thursday night, March 19 (snacks! noisemakers!).

Hoping to do one in Denver immediately prior or after, but waiting on
Campus Cycles.

Any of you interested in attending, or journeying the 35 miles north
to join in the fun?

This is an example of the notice we'd send out to a 60 mile radius

http://www.bikefriday.com/images/email/2007-07-rapidtransit

We'll be having a BF Club of Boulder ride Sat 21st - more social than
anything - all welcome. Perhaps one for Denver too, Tom?

As I said, I'm waiting on Campus Cycles to see if we can squeeze in a
similar show in Denver, either before or after the Boulder one.

Tom, or Audrey, I hope that spare room is still vacant! Perhaps we can
have a social amble with the BF Denver Club too? 0-5% riding, 100-95%
eating if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Oh by the way, I've entered a 1-min video challenge - please rate it
so I can get shortlisted (34,000 applicants!) and help boost BFs name
in the blogosphere...

Boulder Folders,

We had a great little ride last Sunday. Despite the forecast, the weather was great.... I forgot my camera though!

I am going to work on making sure we have a club ride/gathering at least every month and a half. Please feel free to email the group and make suggestions for routes and destinations for our rides.

Eventually, I'd like to get us to the point where we have three levels of rides: easy, medium, and hard. An easy ride would be a light spin about Boulder's bike paths, and this would be the type of ride we would do the most frequently. A medium ride would be something like a ride out to Lyons and back. A hard ride would be something as challenging as the climb to Ward or Jamestown. Of course, we would advertise the type of ride via email so everyone knows what to expect. Please feel free to let me know if you have any thoughts on this.

And now on to some BIGGER news.... Bike Friday's famous Lynette Chiang is coming out to Boulder for a visit in March! She is still hammering out the details, but she needs a little help on her visit now. Lynette needs suggestions for:

1) Local bike shops that you think might make a good match to become an official Bike Friday dealer. This would be a great thing for us Boulder Folders as it would mean that there would be a local store that not only carried some stock models but knew a lot more about Fridays than the average bike shop.

2) Any local venues that might be able to host a film/talk/demo from Lynette. This venue could be the same bike shop you suggest above, or something completely different. The only thing Lynette would need is a PowerPoint projector and a screen. As an example, I have suggested the meeting room at the renovated REI. But we are looking for any other ideas you may have.

Thanks, and please feel free to email back with any of your ideas.

-Jeff Butterworth

I'm organizing my schedule for March, and was discussing the idea of doing a BF Event i.e.

and/or
- BF FilmFest like this:  http://www.galfromdownunder.com/talks
and/or
- BF Dealer show (movie clip):  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdqFySMY66I

in Denver and/or Boulder.  I haven't been to Colorado yet - I've been wanting to forever!

Would this be of interest to you folks? If so, read on...

The schedule would be as follows:

March 7-15 - Arizona BF Desert Camp http://www.bikefriday.com/desertcamp
--> March 15-? - Denver/Boulder --- depending on availability of BF hosts
-->March ? - 2 - Eugene --- I'll leave before you throw me out :o)
April 2 -  back to NYC

An ideal event would be as follows:  meet at the BF Dealer shop for a social Bike Friday club ride, return to watch my BF Film Fest and/or BF demo at the Bike Shop. I just need access to a Powerpoint projector and screen. Here's what my BF Film Fest looks like:

If the BF Dealer is not workable as a venue (and it would have to be a closet to not work), a Film Fest can be done at a local Bike Club, REI, Apple Store.

We promote a typical event with an email blast to your area - here's the one we did for our dealer Rapid Transit Cycles in Chicago:

and with a poster like this:

After, we make a report like this one for the San Francisco 08 visit:

And update the dealer page like this:

We've found that dealers we launch in this way tend to be more successful for the exposure and bonding with the local BF community.

4 SIMPLE THINGS CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN...

1. A place to stay for a low maintenance Customer Evangelist (with internet connection)
2. A venue and date for the FilmFest (BF dealer shop or REI etc)
AND/OR
3. A BF Club ride organized - same or different day as the Film Fest
4. Powerpoint projector and screen for the films.

If all the above sounds possible, please let me know ASAP - I just discovered right now I can book a ticket on Orbitz that goes from NYC - Tucson - Denver - Eugene - NYC spanning March 6-April 2 -- all for $589!

Cheers,

Lynette Chiang

Jeff,

University Bikes is my favorite local store but I have a feeling they wouldn't be interested in a lower volume bike like BF.

I think the REI meeting room is great.  Not only is a good space, but if you get on their calendar then you get a lot of free publicity.

Sorry I missed the ride.  Please plan some more as I'd love to join along.

Boulder Folders,

We had a great little ride last Sunday. Despite the forecast, the weather was
great.... I forgot my camera though!

I am going to work on making sure we have a club ride/gathering at least every
month and a half. Please feel free to email the group and make suggestions for
routes and destinations for our rides.

Eventually, I'd like to get us to the point where we have three levels of rides:
easy, medium, and hard. An easy ride would be a light spin about Boulder's bike
paths, and this would be the type of ride we would do the most frequently. A
medium ride would be something like a ride out to Lyons and back. A hard ride
would be something as challenging as the climb to Ward or Jamestown. Of course,
we would advertise the type of ride via email so everyone knows what to expect.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any thoughts on this.

And now on to some BIGGER news.... Bike Friday's famous Lynette Chiang is coming
out to Boulder for a visit in March! She is still hammering out the details, but
she needs a little help on her visit now. Lynette needs suggestions for:

1) Local bike shops that you think might make a good match to become an official
Bike Friday dealer. This would be a great thing for us Boulder Folders as it
would mean that there would be a local store that not only carried some stock
models but knew a lot more about Fridays than the average bike shop.

2) Any local venues that might be able to host a film/talk/demo from Lynette.
This venue could be the same bike shop you suggest above, or something
completely different. The only thing Lynette would need is a PowerPoint
projector and a screen. As an example, I have suggested the meeting room at the
renovated REI. But we are looking for any other ideas you may have.

Thanks, and please feel free to email back with any of your ideas.

Again, to utilize the warmest part of the day, we will likely finish
up by 2pm... but this all depends on the group. If we want more, we
will do more. If we want less, we will do less... Also, if we wake up

Hey Boulder Folders!

Couldn't help but chime in and say I don't feel so bad after eating an
entire packet of Honey Mustard Kettle Chips the other night as an
S.A.D. defeating measure ssshhhh. Um, yes, the size that says, um 5
serves per bag. "A serve is not a bag," as I was told by our late
receptionist Gaylynn who would counsel us to put out a plate and put
exactly a serve on it and staple the bag shut ...
http://www.bikefriday.com/gaylynn

This is exactly what BF clubs are for - socializing on and off da
bike. Looking forward to visiting you - I had big plans for last year,
but travel funds are tight - but I might
find a way. Would anyone be willing to host a low maintenance customer
evangelist who cleans up after herself ... even
pumps up her own tires? :o)

I had the pleasure of meeting your outgoing leader Jeff Buechler in
Eugene and now he'll be even
closer to the Bike Friday epicenter when he moves to PDX. Jeff, what's
the news?

Hope you had a happy inaug day. Some BF owners certainly did - check out

After reading about Jeffry on the BF website, I emailed him and he
invited me to join this small group. I've had my canary yellow Pocket
Rocket Pro for a few months now. I'm looking forward to hooking up
with other BF owners for some Colorado rides (I live in Boulder). I
would describe my riding style as recreational (slow, but steady).

A ride I'm thinking of doing next weekend (Sunday, June 1) is the
annual Circle Boulder by Bicycle. Link: http://tinyurl.com/392ykf. And
here is a map of the routes: http://tinyurl.com/65yxtf.

There are two loops. According to the map they are 23 and 12 miles.
(Although the first link above gives different numbers.) The event
starts at Scott Carpenter Park at 3 p.m.

I'll be taking my BF to California (SF/Monterey area) in the middle of
June. If anyone has some ideas for rides, I'd welcome suggestions.

I'm looking forward to meeting other BF club members.

alas, my lack of leadership led to a summer of few group rides. Jeff
Butterworth, the club
muscle, has officially kicked me out of my leadership role. this is my attempt
at
redemption...

please consider coming out on Saturday, the 13th for a casual group ride, and
perhaps some
coffee.

let's meet just west 13th St., across from the Dushanbe Tea House at 11am.
we'll start biking
by 11:15am, so don't miss the BF caravan. and, keep your fingers crossed that
the weather
will be warmer and drier than the forecast.

feel free to rsvp, if affirmative, to me(jeffryverse@...) or the yahoogroup

i'm eager to catch up with you all and show-off my new PRP, lucy.

hi folks.

so far, it looks like no one will join erica and i on saturday morning. we will
still go to
Amante at 9am in case anyone shows up.

also, sad news: i was unaware, until today, that the Lyons Cafe, also known as
the Pie Place,
is not open on the weekends at all! so, we might have to make do with treats
from the
Barking Dog Cafe. i apologize if i've tempted anyone unduly with the promise of
pie.

on another note, it looks like Jeff Butterworth and i will also ride on sunday
morning. if
anyone's interested, please email or call me:
