Folks,
I've had a great stay so far at Stanton and Suzie's, Leo and Sue's, and now Elisa's. The LAB conference was great and if I can dig myself out from under the mountain of material I have to process from my Italy, NY and Philly trips just prior, you'll see some nice shots of that too.
Elisa and I are doing the Austin Cycling Club BBQ ride on Sat - hell why not...
I'll be here a bit longer than I thought ... maybe til June 26 depending on whether I can get a standby flight back to Eugene or my next stop, Seattle.
Be good to see you all again! Nancy I hope the throat is getting better. Silence is golden in theory...
PS I received a terrific critique from a rabid fan - almost bordering on being a stalker I think.

Glad you are enjoying your stay in Austin. I am going to the Texas Coast this weekend for a meeting of the Texas Association of Water Board Directors, and to scout a bicycle tour from Austin to Rockport and back, to be called the Texas Whooping Crane Whoopie, which I hope to offer through the Bicycle Adventure Club the first two weeks of November, 2008.

Hey folks - thanks to Preston and Ann for popping round the other night!
The LAB Bike Ed Conference was very interesting and amazing for the fact that every third person who came up to talk owned a Bike Friday!
Leo does a hilly training ride Tue and Thur and so thought you might like to join him - I'll be tagging along on the Pro Petite too.
Meet 6pm, 6.15 absolute latest, 11312 Yucca Drive, 512-786-8457 cell - Leo and Sue Anderson's house. 1.5 hour round trip. 15 miles approx.
Beufort, down Jester, up Jester, down Beufort, back on 360, up Bluegrass, Rain Creek Parkway, couple more climbs, back to the house for a drink if you like or more depending - we could get some stuff on the way.
I'll be leaving Wed for another place and flying out of Austin on the weekend, so hope to see you folks!
Leo can add anything here since I am kinda speaking on behalf of him.
I'm sorry I can't make it. I have laryngitis and absolutely cannot talk. I figure I'd better stay in rest mode for the next few days. Sorry to miss the opportunity to see all y'all.

Hey - Y'all come and celebrate the return of our own Bike Friday galfromdownunder, Lynette Chang.
POTLUCK - bring a little something to share, especially something easy to eat when walking around or balancing that damned plate on your knees (you know what I mean). Yes, dips count. SANGRIA - Sue will make pitchers of Sangria Blanca for a refreshing summery drink. We have plenty of wines to share. If you want something else . . . . we will have a cooler available with ice.
TIME: Milling around and snacking will begin at 6:30 PM and go to after dark. Come when you can.
ENTERTAINMENT: We intend to show one of Lynette's new movies when it gets dark enough in the living room. I expect to show "Route 66", but, hey, a better offer will always be accepted.

Leo, Thank you! I think Stanton and Suzie have offered, so I might take him up on their offer at least initially, so as to spread myself around and thus remain welcome in Austin :o) Soon... I think the conference is mainly for BikeEd people.

Hey Lynette! How long are you here? I'm in Oklahoma this weekend and will be working the following two Saturdays. But I hope we can get together. Let me know!

I will be doing the OKFreewheel bicycle ride across Oklahoma June 10-16, so I won't get to see you this trip to Austin.
Looking forward to seeing you again sometime. Will be taking my BikeFriday to New York in Sept. for a Bicycle Adventure Club ride in the Finger Lakes area, and then again to Mexico in January 2008 for a tour of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Hey I just am getting caught up on my mail from traveling and having limited email access. You are welcome to stay with Sue and I while you are here and we could have a get together while you are staying here.
I am also just reading the flyer we got about the bike ed conference. Sounds interesting and I am grappling with the expense of of signing up.
By the way Jester Blvd, is only a molehill....(just kidding) :>).

Greetings all, I just bought a Crusoe Lite and am very excited about
having a bike again. The people I am meeting who have BF's are
wonderful. I'm eager to get my "legs" under me again. Currently in the
bike-honeymoon phase. lol Would love to meet all of you. Will try to
make it to the pedal on Friday, but I'm not sure. Keep riding.

the City Hall plaza at 4:30 pm on Friday (this week) and we will ride
1.7 miles to beer.
Let's try to get a large group of Friday Folk there and get pictures.

I'm forwarding this email from Dave at Music City Cycles. I know I would love to have a local BF-specific resource. If you feel the same, email Dave with your wishes.
Hi y'all,
I bought Ruth Kanagy's wheelset without asking enough questions. When
I got the wheels (20mm rim width) on my bike, I discovered my brakes
won't reach. So unless someone can tell me how to extend the reach of
my v-brakes, I've got to either let the wheels go or get different
brakes, which may not be possible with an AG anyway. I've been happy
with the brakes, so I decided to let the wheels go (they really are
pretty!) In case you didn't see or don't remember Ruth's post, here's
her description of the wheels from the Yak list:
*406 WHEEL SET* - Used only 6 months!
F. Hub - American Classic 24o Micro, Black
R. Hub - Shimano Capero 36o, Silver
Rims - Velocity Razor 36o (laced 24)
Spokes - Butted 184mm
$150 plus shipping.
She said she was selling them because she traded her bike in for one
w/451 wheels.
I'll sell them for $150 and consider the shipping tuition paid for a
lesson learned. I also have 3 presta tubes that I'll sell for $5 each.
I've put two of them on the wheels, but they've never been ridden
(kind of scary w/o brakes).
If I don't got a response locally, I'll post to the Yak, but I thought
I'd check locally first.
It's a great day for riding!
Nancy
to my BikeFriday Friends
Hugh of the BF Service Dept, thanks for your email. My BikeFriday is
running smooth now.
By copy of this email to my BikeFriday Friends here in Austin I am
letting you all know that Bike Mechanic Brent at Bicycle Sport Shop at
South Lamar and Barton Springs overhauled my internal rear hub per the
recommendation letter I got from BikeFriday.
Hugh's email and Brent's savvy got it done. So now Brent is an expert,
if you need it done here in Austin.

3 1/2 cups yellow split peas (in India it's called Channa Dahl)
14 cups filtered water
1 onion finely chipped
1/4 cup olive oil
4 tsp tumeric powder
1 1/2 tbsp mustard seed
1 1/2 tbsp cumin seed
1 tbsp salt
1/2 tbsp black pepper
1 tsp curry powder
Rinse and cover peas with eater
Fry mustard & cumin seed til they pop
Add onion
Add some water
Cover, cook 5 mins
Add rest of peas w/ water, salt & pepper to taste
Return to heat, simmer on low, careful to avoid burning the bottom.
Some people like to skim off the foam.
Remove from heat.
Add chopped tomato, lots of chopped cilantro and a squeeze of lime
Serve with brown rice
Dahl is a lentil-based yummy dish that Lynette made while staying at Ron's (which is why she thought it might still be in his fridge), but which migrated south to our house when she came for her Manchaca stint. No need to develop a taste for it. It's tasty from the first bite. We haven't eaten so well here since she left.
