Nancy,
I am pretty sure Fred doesn't agree with you!

Dahl (feeds 20)
3 1/2 cups yellow split peas (in India it's called Channa Dahl)
14 cups filtered water
1 onion finely chipped
1/4 cup olive oil
4 tsp tumeric powder
1 1/2 tbsp mustard seed
1 1/2 tbsp cumin seed
1 tbsp salt
1/2 tbsp black pepper
1 tsp curry powder

Rinse and cover peas with eater
Fry mustard & cumin seed til they pop
Add onion
Add some water
Cover, cook 5 mins
Add rest of peas w/ water, salt & pepper to taste
Return to heat, simmer on low, careful to avoid burning the bottom.
Some people like to skim off the foam.
Remove from heat.
Add chopped tomato, lots of chopped cilantro and a squeeze of lime
Serve with brown rice

Dahl is a lentil-based yummy dish that Lynette made while staying at Ron's (which is why she thought it might still be in his fridge), but  which migrated south to our house when she came for her Manchaca stint. No need to develop a taste for it. It's tasty from the first bite. We haven't eaten so well here since she left.

Nancy
