Dear BTTCers,
The June 16 Round Robin results are now posted on our website (www.berkeleytabletennis.org).
Unfortunately, we had some problems this time with latecomers whose calls to the latecomer number were not possible to decipher. Therefore, I'd like to remind you about the importance to pronounce your first AND last name CLEARLY when calling the latecomer number, if you want to make sure to have a spot reserved. We can not guarantee spots in the Round Robin to anyone whose message was not hearable. This reminder is especially important for non-native English speakers (like myself), and for us it is recommended to clearly pronounce our full names at least twice to increase the hearability. Also please make sure that your name is correctly spelled in our database - it makes it easier to match it with your pronounciation.
We also had several players calling the latecomer number and then not showing up, which also messes up the group assignments. Please do not call unless you are sure that you'll come!! It can't be that hard to tell half an hour in advance whether you will go or not. Since this problem has been especially severe with new (and sometimes unidentifiable) players, I am considering not putting in new players in the draw in the future, unless they are there before 7 pm the first time they visit our club (or, in special cases, if they have notified me in advance by e-mail).
In general, the club is also in need of more volunteers, especially to help out with the registration/sign up (let me know if you think you could help out with this once in a while, it is easy and fun), but we are also in need of an overall improved volunteering spirit, and that concerns everyone. Everyone is supposed to help put up and take down our tables and other equipment before and after our Round Robin tournaments. The alternative will be to raise our fees considerably and pay people to do the work.
Back to the results now. Top scorers this week (in terms of rating change) were:
Linda Lam + 131
Wilton Gosti + 102
Randy Hong + 95
Yufeng Li + 86
Srini katragadda + 71
Peter Chung + 51
Congrats to you!
Best,
Mattias
