Hello Simon,
I have used both. The Big Lp gas burner (from UK)worked to a point.
After a bit the bottle cools and the flame weakens with low gas
pressure. Alleviated a bit by sitting bottle (Caravan size) in a bath
of water. The flame is large and hard to handle accurately and the
joints were messy and not pretty. Not really enough heat quickly enough.
I did my first bike with one of these. It worked is all I can say but
I would not recommend it.
I borrowed an Oxy acetylene unit and taught myself to use it with
basic info from the Net. Much easier and does a great neat job. I've
used it to make five bikes now. You need to use a fairly small tip and
lowish pressures. Go this way if you possibly can.
Perhaps a local tech school can help.
I tried electric arc welding but just could not get the hang of it.
The fillet brazed joints are plenty strong and have seen many thousand
km .
