BC Ultra Trailrunning Series update after Race #2   Message List

We experienced a perfect day for trailrunning this year at the Diez Vista 50k,
with mostly dry trails and sunny skies. The roots and rocks on the ridge were a
bit slippery, but then again, they always are! RD's Paul and Penny put on
another fabulous event, so be sure to thank them for all their efforts when you
get a chance.

Gary Robbins had a lonely day out in front of the field as he set a new course
record in another amazing performance, finishing 25 minutes ahead of the next
competitor. On the other hand, but no less notably, there was a tight race on
the women's side that had ultra-newbie Tamsin Anstey barely edging out Vernon's
speedy veteran Tracy Garneau. It was an awesome sight seeing the two ladies so
close to each other as they flew by me on the power line!

Even with the action up front, great performances were seen all the way through
the finishers, with a number of runners completing their first ultra race. DV
always draws a number of first-timers, and it is especially heartwarming to
witness these finishes. Furthermore, Judy Kotopski and Pete Zubick have now each
finished 13 Diez Vistas! Admirably, or just crazy? :-)

The next BCUTS race is....this weekend, May 2! RD Carlos Castillo and the Prarie
Inn Harriers are hosting the Elk/Beaver Ultras in Saanich. There are 25k, 50k,
50m, and 100k options to participate in, so there is something for everyone. As
with all the BCUTS events, there will be CarbBoom gels and chews for the
athletes in addition to some great draw prizes from Nathan Sports.

regards,
Bruce
