BCUTS standings after races #3 &4, Elk/Beaver and Scorched Sole   Message List

Hello fellow ultrarunners!

Sorry for the delay, but the BC Ultra Trailrunning Series points have been
updated after race #3 at Elk/Beaver in Victoria and race #4 at Scorched Sole in
Kelowna. Things are definitely getting interesting in a number of the age groups
as everyone finds their groove after the loooooong rainy and cool spring (is it
even over yet?)

Over at Elk/Beaver, a couple of our neighbours to the east put the locals to the
test, with one of Canada's very best 100k runners, Jack Cook, coming out on top
over a fantastic challenge from perennial Canadian 100k Team member Darren
Froese of Victoria. It was a really tight race that pushed the top runners all
the way.

Congratulations to all the runners in the 100k, 50 mile and 50km events, and
thanks to the ever-enthusiastic race director Carlos Castillo for organising it
all.

A few weeks later up in Kelowna, Mike Labelle from Victoria tore up the field in
what could really be called the "Swamped Sole", rather than Scorched Sole.
(Instead of baking in the heat, the runners faced Giant Mud Pits worthy of a
monster truck). This young runner came off a 2nd place at the Elk/Beaver 50k to
take the field outright in Kelowna. However, he was pressured by a hard-charging
Ellie Greenwald who once again exhibited awesome form to take the women's title
and second place overall. Despite these two 20-somethings beating the rest of
the pack, it should be noted that more "experienced" athletes made up almost all
of the remainder of the participants. Special mention goes to Jim Swadling - it
was great to see him on the trails again, and also for sporting a historic
Silvertip race shirt! RD Shirlee Ross and her co-directors Janice Page and Dan
Crockett put on another great event, it is always a treat for the runners at the
Scorched Sole.

For those of you running the next BCUTS event at Knee Knacker on July 12, have a
great run. For everyone else, why not come out and support your local race at an
aid station or greeting your fellow runners at the finish line? It will get you
inspired for the STORMY 50 or 100 mile runs in August!

See you on the trails,

Bruce
BCUTS Series Director
