Hello runners -
The BC Ultra Trailrunning Series standings have been updated after the Diez
Vista 50k race, and are available at the Series web site www.bcuts.ca
Local speedstress Ellie Greenwood made it two for two in the Series by winning
the overall women's race again, after another hard-fought win at Dirty Duo last
month.
In the men's race, some fresh faces plus a few friends from down south made for
a competitive field, but local Aaron Heidt claimed top spot claimed the victory
over a hard-charging Garry Robbins.
In contrast to the sizzling hot conditions the race has had in past years,
runners at the 2008 Diez Vista were taken by suprise when they ran into a snow
squall at the top of the ridge, and again faced hail, sleet and/or driving rain
later on the out-and-back section. The slick conditions made footing even more
challenging over the already slippery roots and rocks of this classic Wet Coast
trail.
Thanks to race director Paul Slaymaker and his awesome team of volunteers for
putting on another fantastic event. Special mention goes out to Paul's wife and
co-RD Penny, who not only helped organise, but got to race the course for the
first time in five years!
See you at the next BCUTS event, May 3 at beautiful Elk/Beaver Lakes in Saanich
near Victoria (where RD Carlos promises that there will be no snow!)
See you on the trails,
Bruce
