Hello fellow ultrarunners!
The Nathan BC Ultra Trailrunning Series is underway again for the seventh year
after a great - but West Coast wet - event at the Dirty Duo on March 3. Please
check out the Series points standings at http://www.bcuts.ca
This promises to be another fabulous season of trailrunning in the province, and
the Series has a number of exciting new features this year.
First of all, we welcome on board our new title sponsor, Nathan Sports! Nathan
is a new line of sport-specific hydration systems designed by trail runners,
mountain bikers and speed hikers. Lightweight, efficient and well-constructed,
the Nathan products really work well on the trail. Check them out at demo booths
at some of the Series races, or ask one of the Canadian Nathan Ultrarunning Team
members about their favourite product. Along with Nathan, the Series is
fortunate to have the continued support of Montrail, and CarbBoom gels will be
out on the courses again. Thanks to all our sponsors!
I'm really excited to have a new race on the calandar, the Scorched Sole 50k in
Kelowna on Jun 2. This race started last year, and is a very well-organised
grassroots event featuring some of the Interior's excellent trails and scenery.
Treat yourself and make sure this one is on your race calendar this summer.
The STORMY race in Squamish has undergone some changes this season, not only
upping the distance a bit to the standard 50-mile length, but also adding in an
option to double up and take in BC's newest and only 100-mile course (Series
points are only awarded in the 50-mile event this year). Thanks to RD Wendy
Montgomery for her great ideas and hard work with this race!
Welcome to Carlos Castillo as the new RD of the Elk/Beaver Ultras. Bob Reid has
organised these events for many years, and we should all be grateful to him for
his hard work in this classic BC event that has been the proving grounds of some
of Canada's great ultra performances, and a springboard to many who compete at
the World Championship level. Thanks to Bob for all his work, and to Carlos for
stepping up and continuing the work.
Finally, with the unfortunate cancellation of Silvertip last year, the Walk in
the Park event in Kamloops will be the series finale. Again, we owe a lot to the
Silvertip RD's Rob Lang and Mark Sherman for their work over the years, and the
event will be sadly missed on the calendar. Don't forget to check out Walk In
The Park to pick up your final series points.
See you on the trails,
Bruce
