Congratulations to BC runners Neil Ambrose, Al Harman, Patrick Hinds, Rob McWilliam, Randy Rankin and Dom Repta for having their names drawn today for the 2007 Western States Endurance Run. They are probably all now thinking "oh my gawd, what have I done". There is a lot of work and planning to do before June 23, 2007. First on the list should be hotel reservations, they fill up very, very quickly.
For the losers (I'm one of them) I would like to suggest a couple of 100 mile alternatives to Western States:
==Bighorn Mountain Wild & Scenic Trail Run - June 14-17, 2007
This is a low key 100 miler on a very beautiful course. I recommend it highly. You can see some pictures from the 2004 run at:
==Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs
Also a beautiful course with nice views of Lake Tahoe. You can see pictures of the 2006 run at:
Both races are within driving distance of Vancouver. They also have shorter races on the same weekend. Bighorn is close to the Bighorn Battlefield historic site and Yellowstone National Park. Tahoe Rim is right at Lake Tahoe. Either event could be turned into a nice vacation trip for both the runner and family. I plan to do both and hope so see some of you at the start line(s).
