Five of us accompanied Godfrey from Central Park yesterday, Herb, Angela, Kevin, Henry and I. He was a little behind schedule when he got here so we ran East to Sussex street to meet him there. Herb and Angela ran with us to Knight before heading back and Kevin, Henry and I continued with Godfrey right to the finish. We really enjoyed being able to finish the run with him. It was very exciting. I was amazed at how well he was running after 60 km of running. He only required the occasional short walking break and when he ran he seemed to be running at a good pace. When we got to Sexsmith elementary school, there was the whole school outside to cheer him on. There was also a crowd of around 100 to cheer him at the finish at Langara with speeches from Vancouver Parks and the school Principal. From there Kevin and I slowly hobbled back with Henry catching up to us just before Central Park. I haven’t run for a month with my sore hamstring. I don’t think my physiotherapist is going to be happy with me. I was supposed to start a walk run program next week to slowly get back into running. I don’t think running 17 to 19 km qualifies for that.
