recommended running/biking routes in the coastal US??

Hello all,

I am heading down the coast for a road trip vacation. Going through Washington, Oregon and California, possibly as far as Joshua Tree.

I will be bringing my trail shoes and mtn bike, just wondering if anyone had any can't miss trails to recommend?

Also wouldn't mind doing a race if anyone knew of one. We will be gone from the 17th till the 26th of March.
