Anyone on this list ever thought of visiting New Zealand?  This is apparently quite a freak show and a great way to see the countryside...

Entries open for Southern Traverse 2004

Entries open for the 14th Southern Traverse, 9am (NZ standard time) 5 April 2004.

This year's race, to be held on the West Coast, South Island, New Zealand is expected to attract good national and international interest as the race returns to it's roots back in New Zealand's wilderness.

The West Coast will provide racers with a good mix of bush and rain forest, wild beaches and rivers, alpine passes and stunning scenery.

The six day race will start at a yet to be confirmed location on November 15 and finishes on November 20. Registration will start in Hokitika on November 12. Entry fee remains  at NZ $6000 (approx US $4000).

There is prize pool of NZ $60,000 including cash.

The Southern Traverse caters for 50 teams, selected after a standard review process to ensure they meet the criteria for the race. Certificates will once again be required for kayaking and first aid. Other certificates may be required depending on recces ie rope skills.

The race is a six day non-stop event for co-ed teams of four competing in a variety of disciplines depending on the nature of the course. Details of the course remain secret until 24 hours before the start of the race.
