Help us out if you can... even for 30 minutes... just throw your bike down and
throw some dirt. :)

--> Fri: Join Jerry, Kevin, Nolan, Jon and Mike from 11am to 3pm as we build
more steep ladder bridge chutes on Step-Child and log benches in the clearing.

--> Sat: Join Kyle and the Gerk's team on Voodoo Child (Beginner FR with
advanced options) on the work party from 10am to 3pm, then ride the newly opened
line from 3pm to 6pm! WooHoo! More Step-Child and clearing bench work going on,
too.

--> Sun: Join Jerry and Mike from 10am to 3pm on Step-Child... more steep ladder
bridge chutes.

--> Mon: Last day of log bench building in the clearing. 11am to 2pm. KC Parks
is coming with the backhoe to place the big logs!

--> Every day: there's a pile of lumber on the north side of the clearing near
the top of StepItUp that needs to be hauled down to the bottom of Ryan's Line.

Thanks,
Mike

Hurry – deadline for proposals isMarch 30!

Conference will offer breakout sessions following three themed tracks:

1. Planning for Success Strategies to help your trail project gain traction,
including successful fundraising, partnerships and coalition-building, and
legislation and advocacy.

2. Managing Trails on the GroundCase studies and presentations focused on
effective trail design and construction as well as best practices for resource
protection and managing trail use.

3. Community EngagementTactics and success stories for trail outreach and
communication to diverse audiences, cultivating volunteers and involving youth.

A coworker will be in Kent next week and wanted to bring his road bike. Are
there any bike paths or good road rides in or around Kent? Most of what I have
seen around Kent did not seem very road bike friendly. We're in Portland.

Thanks,

Green River Trail is a nice one. Starts in Ft Dent in Tukwila (near the Family
Fun Center, and eventually hooks up with the Interurban trail - can get a nice
long ride on that, and no cars.

Used to ride it back before I went completely to the dark side

The Green River Trail is indeed fun. The problem is that it's still covered in
giant sandbags that were put there a couple years ago when there were fears of
the Howard Hansen Dam failing. The bags are scheduled to be removed this
spring, but nobody is quite sure what the trail underneath is going to look
like.

Then you'd probably need a mtn bike to ride through the sandbags, eh? ;-)
My last ride on the trail was before the flood threat - glad you were able

Thanks. I've seen that one and was hoping for one that was a little easier to
follow. I know the area well, but a new friend would like to try it and I'm
trying to find her a map for the times I wouldn't be with her. The ones Peter
used to have were great.

You should check out Bike Masters and Boards bike shop. They are located at
the intersection of Kent Kangley Road and 216th Ave. SE. This is by the
Playmor Tavern near 4 corners. They have a rather large map on the wall
with detail and I believe they have some "to go" as well.

Subject: big props to Brian and all the Paradise Valley Conservation Area trail gnomes
stobstar
Send Email Send Email

while Duthie continues to blow my mind with all the additional new trails and
huge amount of volunteers, i think it's also important to share some information
on Paradise Valley Conservation Area as this area can get overshadowed
sometimes. just wanted to extend a heartfelt thanks to Brian and his crew as
well as to anyone who has gone out to do trail work over there recently. it is
very impressive to see just how quickly all the blow-downs were cut and removed
from the recent ice storm, and recently there's been an incredible amount of
work done on the Lloyd trail---whoever was out there, you guys and girls did an
awesome job removing all the standing water and clearing all the mud puddles.
for those who haven't been out there in a while you will be very impressed.

last weekend i helped out a little on the Mainline Trail, Cascara trail and also
Red Alder. Red Alder is getting better as there were many out there clearing mud
puddles and putting in fresh dirt and gravel. this trail still needs a lot of
work, but i think with continued support this trail can be knocked out sooner
than expected so people can start riding this trail again with little or no mud.
if the trail is not attended to, people will continue to ride it, make it worse
and then it will require more effort to get this trail in good working shape
again. the time is now, with this crappy weather, to get out there for some
trail karma, so you won't feel guilty when you are riding in the summer.

huge thanks to Brian for coordinating efforts with people and machines. PVCA is
a total gem of a place to ride and continues to get better and better. there's
been many drains built on the trails there to help with drainage--if you are out
there and see them clogged with debris, please take a moment to clear them out
to help them continue to function as planned. once all the current trails are in
good working shape, there's opportunities for new trails to be created.

thanks again to anyone and everyone for your trail work efforts out at PVCA to
continue to make this area a great place to ride and enjoy.

much appreciated,
eric

a low end aluminum riser bar (taken of a Hardrock). $5. Oh yeah, and some

If you join the black diamond trail coalition they have a new map that can
be downloaded from the file tab sheet on the big tent site. It is a
download posted by Rick Hienz. You can get info on joining the trail coalition
in the attached link.

Bike Master and Boards has black and white copies of the new map. They
have the new map on their wall if you want to go look at it. Its a great map!

I believe you can get a copy of the old Jim Hendrix map that was on the
wall at the Black Diamond bike shop at Center Cycle in Renton.

I have attached the new map. Hope it comes through.

Hope this helps. Terry

A few of us regulars are talking about doing some work but we have a problem
communicating where the spots are that need work. "You know that one spot just
north of the fork on the first uphill....? Can someone make a map that can be
updated with pictures and descriptions? Do you have one of those new cameras
with GPS and don't know what to do with it? A spot would be marked on the map
by some one who took the GPS coordinates, you could click on it, add a picture
and fill out a form. The form might have space for date, description of
problem, solutions and amount of work. Software would have to be free and easy
to use so anyone who could download it and update the map. Could it be part of
the trail wiki? This could also be used by the county to help with planning.
This would be a good project for someone who doesn't like or can't do trail
work.
