Well some one is building dirt jumps out there again. There is a set by the
pipeline right of way and a set closer to 300th. We'll have them removed soon
enough. If any one knows who is building them please mention to them this is not
helping us out there.

Thank you,

I gave everyone the chance to stay at home all warm and dry, but four hardcores
still wanted
to play outside so off we went in spite of the weather. I hadden't  thrown a leg
over the SS in a couple of months and I have to say it felt great to be back on
the steel hard tail. The rain stopped at 6:30 and held off for the rest of the
ride except for a few sprinkles. There was as much water as I have ever seen on
the route last night. The streams swelling with all the precipitation. Four deer
were seen grazing  in the watershed. Thanks to all who rode last night.

A group of people (myself included) are shopping around for bikes.

We were thinking of spending around $800 per bike new. So if you have bikes of
that spec or other bikes with a better spec that you're willing to sell for
around $800 let me know.

Here's what we're looking for, if you're looking to get rid of something let me
know:

Mountain Bikes
1 - 19"
1 - 16"
Entry Level Components
- Shimano Deore or better Derailleur
- Disk Brakes
- Front Suspension (rock shox dart II or better)

E.g. Trek 6000, Gary Fisher Marlin Disc, Specialized Rockhopper Disc

Road Bikes
1 - 52 cm
1- 54 cm
Entry Level Components
- Shimano 105 or better

E.g. Giant OCR 3 Trek 1500 Specialized Allez

Probably not much mountain bike wise will take you down this direction but if
you happen to find yourself in the Columbia City neighborhood and are looking
for a good place to get a bite to eat and some good local beers, the Columbia
City Alehouse will certainly fit the bill.

More than just regular pub fare, they offer really good sandwiches and salads in
a funky little setting. Beer selections are good with brews from Boundary Bay,
Hales, Georgetown, Laughing Budda, Maritime, Diamond Knot and Scuttlebutt.
Imperial pints are the standard pour at $5 (a darn good value).

Two pints up from this roving beer explorer.

I'm currently running a Manitou spring on my DHX, though in a much
smaller size (2.25inch). No issues. Keep in mind that Fox rates their
springs on difference from free length to coil bind, while everyone
else seems to just state the max actual shock stroke that's
compatible. For example, the Fox spring I do have for my DHX is
labeled as a 2.37" stroke but the same spring from manitou is just
labeled 2.25". Both are intended to fit a 2.25" stroke shock.

Jon has an update from last week posted on Evergreen's home page:
http://evergreenmtb.org/home/index.php

I'm guessing there is still a lot of snow on the Preston, but since there's a
trailhead party planned for opening day on April 15, I'm guessing trails will
open as planned.

It's all pretty weather dependent, so I'd look for an update from Jon as we get
a bit closer. Strange spring weather we've been having for the last few weeks.

There's also a Tiger work party on the 18th. That would be a great one to join
since I'm sure the trails will needs some work. The crews couldn't do us much
on the Preston as they wanted this winter since we had so much snow at lower
elevations.

The promise of another day of warm weather was too good to pass up.  Just in
case anyone else wants to join me, I'll be leaving from downtown Bellevue this
evening around 4:30pm (ish).  Riding towards Woodinville.  Dirt route entails
going through the Kirkland Watershed, past Bridle Trails Park to Marymoor, up
the west side of the slough until I run into the construction zone (so as to
avoid the madness on the SRT as much as possible), west from Redhook on the Tolt
Pipeline and then back to home on the SRT from Bothell.

I'm so new, in fact, I don't have a bike yet. I've ridden road bikes off and on
for years, but never off-road (with the exception of my bmx days as a
kid/teen)...and it intrigues me. I'd still ride on road often, but would spend
much of my time on modest trails and who knows what. We've got property that
boarders friend's property and we've got grandiose dreams of what might be.
With 2,000 plus acres that is 60% open the possibilities are endless. But, I
need a bike. Where do I start? I don't want to spend a ton, but I want
something that I won't be dissappointed in either. Bike shops are a 2 hour
drive away. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

In the coming weeks, I'm hoping to do more adventures that use the bus system to
get out to a trail system and then ride home.  Since I live in Woodinville and
work in Bellevue, obvious places include St Eds and Grand Ridge.  In addition, I
plan on utilizing Willows Fjord, the Thrilla route and Thrilla West route to
tack some mileage onto my "normal" commute route.  My thought is to do these
extended commutes on Tuesdays and will be putting emails out to the listserve in
case anyone is interested in joining me for a portion of the ride.

Would love to figure out how to get to Beaver Lake via bus but still have to do
some investigation.  Info on the "Thrilla South" route from the bottom of Grand
Ridge back into Issaquah would also be welcomed.

This might sound crazy, but it's an idea I had. I noticed that I let my rear
shock get scratched and now every time it compresses past the scratch a tiny
bit of air leaks out. It's not fatal but it is annoying and increases the
time I have to spend inflating my shock.

As I was climbing IAB the other day, listening to my shock wheeze, I had the
idea that I might be able to fill in the scratch with bondo, buff it up and
have a non-leaky shock. Has anyone tried this method or anything similar to
fix a shock leak caused by tiny scratches?

Thanks!

Actually, the accepted way to fix a scratch on a shock or fork is to use
fingernail polish.

First, get an old fingernail buffer thing (not sure what they're really called),
and buff down the scratch so there is nothing like a burr protruding upward.
Then paint the scratch with polish - let it cure. Then buff down the excess
polish to a smooth finish. Just be careful not to buff off the coating on the
shock shaft.

Then I bet you'll be good to go for a few years. I've never tried it on a
shock, but I've done this several times with great results on forks.

My dream is a bus route to Snoquamie pass, then ride back to (your choice of)
civilized destination via dirt (OK gravel in spots). Now that the tunnel is
irreparable and closed, that fouls ups the works a bit at the top. I guess
while I'm dreaming, let's fix the futzing tunnel.

I have heard of people using JB weld also. Same idea as the
fingernail polish. Just make sure you get the area as clean as you
can. Use acetone or somthing of that nature that wont leave behind a
residue before you apply your filler. As far as bondo would go, its
an absorbant material that most likely wont adhere very well or if it
does it may still leak due to the pourous nature of the material.
