Sharon Meadow or litte Sharon (smaller field by the tunnel to Haight St. -
we've had a number of our Tu/Th games there last few weeks) sound like the
way to go tomorrow morning. I'll probably roll by around 10:30, hope to see
you early-Saturday types out, too. DK, et al.?

Good Idea, because......Opera in the park will be setting up at Sharon....
Matthew Tomaszewicz wrote:Usually when there is something at Speedway the best
option is to head about 1/4 of mile towards OB to
Lindley Meadow.

However, there is sometimes a picnic or reserv there.

I think the best plan for pick-up would be to meet at
Lindley early, 10am prompt, and get the game going
before anyone else arrives. The later it gets the less
of a chance for a game.

If this doesn't work, probably the best option is to
sneak onto/check out the Beach Chalet.

Rookie Sense.

We thought we would just volunteer ourselves to whatever teams need women
players. We have experience (but are out of shape) and are really interested in
playing. Let us know if you have any leads. Thanks

The hot Revolution 5 Documentary filmed by the youth of Point Visions will
be available for purchase at the SFUL/Elizabeth Murray table this weekend
at Sectionals for the low low price of $20 for 1, $35 for 2, or $45 for 3.

This film is packed with crazy bids and hot cheers, ultimate spirit and
ultimate skills. A perfect video to show people who don't understand what
you do on weekends. They will after they see this! (think christmas
present for mom) It's fantastically edited with a great soundtrack. See a
one minute trailer at http://www.pointvisions.org (I've found Internet
explorer to work best for viewing the site)

And of course, all proceeds, benefit Point Visions, teaching video and
editing skills to the youth of Bayview Hunters Point.

If you ordered a tape(s) at the tournament, it will be shipped next week
when more dupes are available (each is a one off from the digital master,
so this takes time). Ordering information is available on the site as
well, if you miss us this weekend.

I'll apologize now for you receiving this email more than once, cuz it's
going to happen. These kids spent a lot of time filming and editing and
coming up with this amazing video and we need to get them some cash for
equipment and tapes and labels and everything else.

thanks.

Subject: WINTER LEAGUE 2002 SIGNUPS INFO
henrikmeng
Send Email Send Email

Well, with the SFUL season over and the fast approach of
Sectionals, Regionals, and Nationals, we've been getting a lot of
inquiries about Winter League this year.

While we're still in the planning stages, the tentative date for
online signups is TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8TH AT 9:00AM!!! So
mark that date down and spread the word. The Draft will most
likely be in late October after Nationals. I'd have it sooner, but I'm
travelling to China in mid-October.

Speaking of the Draft and being a captain, if you are interested at
all in reaping the fame, fortune and free dinner that comes with
being a captain, please email Henrik!

Also, we're still bandying about theme ideas for this season. We
have some very good ones, but if you have one that you think is
just the best thing you've ever heard, let us know as well!

Again, games are Tuesdays and Thursdays. It looks as though
we'll be going from 7:30PM-10:30PM this year, because of the
field situation (see below). The first games will be November
5th and 7th.

Now about the fields: Recreation & Park totally resodded and
refurbished Jackson Field this summer...great news! But -- and
this is a big 'ol skanky "but" -- they made a deal with the
groundskeepers there that they wouldn't allow groundsports on
the field for a year in order to allow the grass really to take root.

What's that mean for us? Well, we won't be on Jackson this
season. As you all know, options for lit field space are limited in
the City, but as of now we will be playing out at KIMBALL FIELD At
GEARY @ STEINER. It's right near the Fillmore, Japantown and
Kabuki Hot Springs.

Not to mention the sweet 24-hour Denny's. Mmmm...Moon Over
My Hammy....

So there you go. More info will be passed along as soon as we
know it! See you out in November!

Hey all...

Just wanted to update people on the whole SFUC Winter League
signup thing, seeing as we are getting closer and closer to
registration on October 8th. Again, pardon any duplicates, and
sorry in advance for my long-windedness.

First of all, please be aware that, for better or worse, SFUC is
NOT a beginner's league! If you haven't played before, or really
haven't played for very long, then right now we're probably not the
best league for you. Our fabulous friends at SFUL have spring
and summer leagues that are more geared towards novices.
Check them out at www.sful.org! As the kids are saying today,
they're off the hook!

And don't think this means we don't love you…we do! Just cut
your chops for a little longer and then come sign up and play with
us! Hey, I've run this league for 3 years now and I can't even
play. Forehand into the wind? Yeah, right. I'm a tough crowd.

Second, I believe the way the process works is that we will have
a registration link on our homepage (www.sfuc.org) on the
morning of signups. 9AM. You'll just click on that and signup
with all your info. Pretty easy and painless.

After your done, cut a check for $68 and mail it ASAP to the
address you're given on the site. Please note the fee hasn't
gone up in a long time, even with inflation!

People have asked about Paypal, and for some reason I just
haven't really warmed to the idea just yet. Who knows, I may
soon enough. I know it's simpler and easier, perhaps, but I'm a
lonely soul who loves getting mail. Plus, it's easier just to
destroy the check if you don't get in, rather than refunding the
money.

And think about this: by mailing in your check, you'll know where I
live. Hmm…on second thought maybe Paypal isn't such a bad
idea.

Remember: space is LIMITED. Especially for men. Sucks, to be
a guy, doesn't it? Anyway, from what I've been told, the "refresh"
key on your browser is your best friend that morning. Other days
it may be something else, but not the day of registration. Be
patient and persistent and you'll get through!

What else? Oh yeah, this year we're thinking about trying
something different. The weekend BEFORE signups we will be
holding the SFUC Scouting Combine. Just like the NFL,
everyone who wants to play has to come out.

At 7:30am Saturday, the first group of players arrive for
measurements. The physicals begin at 8:15. SFUC trainers
and medical staff will be present. After that, there are two taped
interviews. The first is not exactly an interview, but an opportunity
to videotape the player for body build. The second is a
10-minute interview in which players are asked about their
background, their goals, etc.

At 1pm, players are tested for strength – SFUC scouts record
how many times they can bench-press 225 pounds. After that,
they take the Wunderlic test, which some teams use to evaluate
a player's intelligence.

Sunday morning is the speed and agility testing. Prospective
players will run 40-yard dashes, do jumping drills and
position-specific Ultimate drills.

Ha ha…and if you believe any of that, there's a bridge I've been
meaning to unload as well. Still, it'd be sort of fun in masochistic
kind of way, huh?

Besides, I know some people who wouldn't do so well on that
Wunderlic thing. Sostak, are you listening?

Okay, I've rambled long enough. People heading to Regionals,
good luck and represent! If you have any more questions, don't
hesitate to email me.

Sharon Meadow and Speedway will both be closed this weekend. Pickup will
have to be at Big Wreck at 10:00 to get play in before too many people show
up.

Eddy, feel free to forward this to the Lindley group.

hey all

just wanted to send one more notice to everyone reminding you that
SFUC signups are online tomorrow starting at 9:00AM!!

a couple of things to remember:

   1. as i stated before, while we love beginners, we are not really a
beginners league. our lovely friends at SFUL run a wonderful,
beginner-friendly league in the apring and summer. check them out at
www.sful.org.

   2. everything you need to know should be on the website
registration form. the fee is $68.00.

   3. as we are a UPA-sanctioned event, you WILL need to be a current
UPA member. you will be responsible to offer proof of membership.
as part of the registration process you will need your current UPA
membership #. i believe we'll offer a link to their site on the form
so you can log on and find it out, but if you want to speed up the
process, find it out beforehand.

   4. if you're NOT a UPA member, we recommend paying a one-time
$10.00 fee to participate in SFUC. the total then would be $78.00
for you all. all of this should be explained on the registration
form as well.

   5. please understand that we have limited spots! if any men out
there can get that sex change done before tomorrow, please do so with
all speed. otherwise, we really can't guarantee anything. thanks
for understanding!

hmm...is there anything else? i don't think so. should you have any
questions, feel free to email me!

woohoo!! we're really looking forward to this year!

The team I was to play with was on the wait list for Humbolt, and by the
time we found out that we had made it in(today), most people had made
plans. But I'm still going, so if you need a male player who can handle
or do whatever, please let me know. danielm@...

Ultimate players,

As some of you may already know, Elizabeth Murray is running for the UPA Board
of Directors.

In case you don't know Elizabeth, here is some info about her contributions to
Ultimate in the Bay Area. She is one of the founders and a co-director of SFUL.
In addition to the Spring and Fall leagues, SFUL also hosts several invitational
tournaments and Hat tournaments each year. None of this would happen without
Elizabeth's hard work, motivation, and incredible organizational skills.
This past season she both organized and directed Revolution V and ran the
logistics for Co-ed sectionals. Both tournaments were great successes.

I have been around Ultimate for an awfully long tome, and I know of no one who
could contribute more to the sport by being part of the UPA than Elizabeth.

Voting is now open for UPA members at the Web Site.

The Score-o-matic is up and running. One of our beloved NW Region teams was
eliminated yesterday... Quarterfinals were played this morning and the semis are
just getting underway. Check in and see how all the teams are doing at the UPA
Club Championships down in Sarasota, FL.
