Please join our group on Facebook and feel free to post your pickup, tourney or
league info there. Or email me (address below) if you want your info posted in
more official looking fashion from Bay Area Disc.

The countdown is on till when we launch the new BayAreaDisc.org in conjunction
with our friends at DiscSpace. It will be a LOT more interactive and more
frequently and appropriately updated. We have a lot in store, but email me if
you have some brilliant ideas for the site.

In the meantime, head over to the site and check out all the leagues and pickup
games we have going and those we have coming up. We have a lot of discs in the
air, so to speak, so come join us!

It’s supposed to rain all morning and afternoon on Thanksgiving, so I vote for Friday at 11 AM at Bushrod.  I think you can make the final call, Patsy, and send out the email since you were the great initiator (and I’m not on the ultimate or Pixar lists).

 Hello all

Instead of spending the day getting elbowed in the face at Wal-Mart, our pickup group is having a special game of maximum calorie burning pickup.
Y'all are invited. We play at the MLK middle school track field- entrance is on hopkins street.

Of note, our game has a particularly laid back philiosophy (read: no stall count) which is sometimes frustrating to super aggro people.
Our priorities are to have fun and sweat out the gravy. Please bring white/dark shirts water etc

Happy turkey day

If you're on the fence about Gazos next weekend, Dec. 3-4th, take a moment to picture this:

You drive one hour down the coast, stopping in Pescadero, CA.  You play ballin’ Ultimate all day on the pristine beach next to the crashing surf.  You lay out a lot, dance a lot, cheer a lot, play dizzy kelp (ask Carleton), sky some bitches, and have a rockin’ good time.  You check into your campground or cozy Costanoa cabin, and walk a couple miles down the road to a delicious dinner sponsored by the Gazos Grill, followed by a silent auction for some awesome schwag sponsored by the YMCA Point Bonita’s Outdoor Education Program.  The party gets rollin’, you drink some craft beer, dance your face off and try your best to win it, and somehow eventually make your way back to your sleeping bag.  You wake up the next morning, eat a delicious breakfast from the Grill, share glory stories of the night before, and do it all again.

Sound good?  Thought so.

Hey Frisbeefaces!! It's that time of year again—shorter days (longer nights
to party!), and Ocean Beach League! That's right, folks, come one, come all,
step right up and come play in SF's “other” winter league! Get sand between
your toes instead of that ground-up Goodyear stuff :)

For newbies and people with difficulty parsing information in context, Ocean
Beach Winter League is a weekly ultimate frisbee league, with games at Ocean
Beach . . . in the winter. Games will be on Sundays from 1-3pm. The league is
coed, and beginner friendly (though plenty of us fancy club players play, too),
and superduperfun!

The season will begin on December 11th, and conclude with the final round of
playoffs on March 11th. Plus the requisite mid- and post-season parties on Jan.
21 and Mar. 10.

Lastly, we need a few more extra-awesome peeps to help us out with
captaining—one male and one female per team. You don't need to have a
national title on your resume, just spirit and moxie and everything
foxy—that's what captains are made of. The draft is tentatively scheduled for
Dec. 7.

Signups are open at www.bayareadisc.org/leagues/ocean_beach_home.asp and will
run through Dec. 2. Cost is $50, half-price for captains. Any questions, email
oceanbeachleage@...

See you on the sand!

Hey all,
Just a friendly reminder that signups are still open for Ocean Beach League, a
fun-focused beach ultimate league designed to bridge the months in between
Lei-Out and Paganello for beach veterans, but also win over new beach lovers
transitioning from grass to sand for the first time.

We still need both men and women to fill out our teams, so come on out and get

Hey there Bay Area Ultimate Players!
Did you know one of the world's best and longest-running beach pickup games is right in our own backyard?  That's right!!  Saturdays at Ocean Beach is home to an awesome tradition of sick plays on soft sand, all winter long.  While many spin-offs have come up over the years, the pickup game still survives, and welcomes you to come join in on the fun.

Here are the deets:

Where: Ocean Beach, Stairwell 9.  Just north of Fulton.
When:  Saturdays (including this one). Official 2011-2012 start time is 12:00, but people come and go throughout the afternoon, so if you don't see numbers right away, just pull out your disc and stick around.*
How can I stay informed? Join the sfbeachultimate@yahoogroups.com listserv.  Sometimes people use it to poll interest before making the journey to the beach or to work out carpools.
Why? Because it's free, fun, fabulous, and we're lucky as hell to have it!  Yeehaw!!

See you on the beach!!

*(There is an invitation-only high-level workout immediately preceding the pickup game.  Don't let them confuse or intimidate you.  They're actually quite nice, and they'll merge into pickup.)

Dear Bay Area Disc Members,

Season's greetings from all of us at Bay Area Disc. We're taking a quick moment to ask for your support of Bay Area Disc as we are 501-c-3 Non Profit.   Besides organizing leagues and tournaments, one of the main parts of our mission to offer opportunities to bring our love of ultimate, Spirit of the Game, and physical fitness to the next generation of players.

Bay Area Disc provides resources and organization to ensure that our local youth division is able to dominate the national circuit the same way our Open, Women's, Mixed and Master's teams do.  While Bay Area Disc is a big piece of this pie, this would not be possible without our amazing youth players and a whole host of adults in our community who have given their time, energy, and expertise to the kids.
Through this partnership, we:
  • Won the last two national USAU Mixed Youth Club Championships and formed our first ever team for the U16 level
  • Won the USAU California State Championship High School title (Alameda) and Middle School title (San Mateo)
  • Host several summer camps, developmental leagues and clinics for hundred of kids aged 8-18
  • Work closely with other local organizations like Playworks to bring ultimate to 24 urban schools in San Francisco and Marin
And for those of us over 18, Bay Area Disc offers plenty of opportunities to get out there and play the sport we love, including:
  • 10 leagues a year including club, hat, draft, youth, beach, and women's leagues
  • Multiple beginning, intermediate, advanced and women's clinics
  • Various tournaments from hat to USA Ultimate sanctioned events
  • Support of a bunch of pick-up games going all over the Bay Area
  • Various field rentals for club team practice space
  • Social and community organizing events
The trick is, running all these things costs money. Most of what we do can be covered through league and tournament fees, but a lot of what we offer is free. If you do have a few extra dollars to give (every small bit helps) please click here to donate. We know that times are tough and most of us don't have any extra cash to throw around, so if you cannot make a donation, here are a few other ways you can help:
  • Give Time: Volunteer to help with a camp, tournament, league or clinic
  • Share: Post this message to Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn or any others
  • Play: Just being out there and playing the game helps raise awareness of our sport, and by extension of our organization and its mission
Thank you so much and we wish you all a happy & healthy 2012 filled with layout D's, spectacular greatests, a Callahan or two, and some killer after-parties!

We're currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise the capital required to get the network up and running.  Our initial focus is on college but we hope to expand the coverage to encompass major club tournaments, including Worlds.  For more information and to support us visit:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nexgen/ngn-nexgen-network

NGN will always have a live free stream available, with subscriptions giving viewers access to HD content and VOD.

Check out the footage from the 2011 USAU Club Championships, featuring the Bay Area's finest:

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to email me or come find me at Winter League.  I am the gangly British guy playing for Mei Lei and I'd love to talk to you.

Thank you,

The annual St. Pat's Hat tournament is Los Angeles is open for registration.
This is a Co-ed Hat tournament on March 17 & 18 at Van Nuys / Sherman Oaks Park
in Van Nuys, CA. Anyone is welcome. Registration ends Friday, February 24.

Special Hat Rules are in effect. You must bring a creative hat. (No baseball
caps, unless they're cleverly decorated.) Hat D's are allowed. And you must
have your hat on your head to be an offensive player. If your hat falls off,
you're just a tall blade of grass at that point.

Go to http://www.laout.org/st-pats-hat-2012/ for more info and to register!
