Since it is readily apparent that congress lacks the ability to pass any meaningful and effective economic stimulus program. ATTC has decided to step up and take on this important task ourselves.
Effective February 1 ATTC will implement its February "Ping-Pong Stimulus program". Key components of the program include. "One Dollar Wednesdays" and "Five Dollar Family Sundays". Additionally the Alameda TTC Yahoo! group ( http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/alamedatabletennis/ ) contains a coupon for 50% off February monthly membership.
Dave Hanson AlphaPong owner and Alameda TTC partner explained how the program will work. "When Bob comes in on a Wednesday and pays $1 instead of five, that saves $4 that he can then spend into the local economy. So now instead of Bob packing a Bologna sandwich for lunch, he can now visit the Falafel Hut and purchase a falafel roll. Now with the increase in business Mustafa the owner of the Falafel Hut can now expand and hire more local workers who also spend into the economy. Soon Mustafa will be able to expand nation wide and put hundreds of people to work making delicious falafel. We can expect that very soon we will see the economy rebound and a big drop in the unemployment rate. Also since we know that "as California goes, so goes the nation" we can soon expect a tremendous increase in the popularity of Table Tennis nation wide. Since table tennis is a very healthy and enjoyable sport, this could well be just what is needed to save our failing health care system and keep thousands off antidepressants."
When asked for his comments on the new Ping-Pong stimulus program ATTC partner Avishy Schmidt responded, "I like falafel".

As Rajul said, "Looks like a very good opportunity for bay area players to get good tournament exposure."
Two tournaments in a row. Let's how Bay Area players are made of.:-)
Forward for NATT: =================================
At Berkeley CA, February 21st and 22nd, NATT runs the Western Open at the Recreational Sports Facility of UC Berkeley.
Unfortunately,
we were late in securing the sanction for the event, and not wishing to
mail out ads and entry blanks while that was on hold, we missed the
window to market the tournament through the post office.
While the entry process is available on-line at www.natabletennis.com,
we know that some folks lack either internet access or know-how to
accomplish that. So I am asking you, forum readers and denizens to give
the tournament a hand.
Go to the website and access the PDF
version of the tournament entry blank. Entry deadline is February 6th,
but entries have been slow! Print the pdf, make multiple copies and
take them to your club and distribute them to your TT buddies. Energize
the word-of-mouth network so that everyone with an inclination has a
chance to enter the competition!
The only change from the info
in the entry blank is a that Dr. Ibrahim will not be serving as
Tournament Ref. An opportunity to work the ITTF event in Qatar was too
good to pass up! So we are fortunate to have Yelena Karshedt;s services
instead!
Have you ever looked at the juniors training and said to yourself,"You know if I had access to that kind of training I could get good to." Well you are in luck, because starting in February ATTC will begin offering adult tournament training. Training will take place on Wednesdays from 8:30 – 10:00pm. Stop thinking about getting better and "Just do it!"
Also on February 2nd ATTC will start a new 8-week adult beginner class session. Classes are on Mondays and go from 8:30 pm – 10:00pm.
For more info, or to sign up visit alamedattc.com.
Stephen and Mr. Li gave a fantastic show tonight. I hope someone would post the wonderful exhibition performance on youtube so those who couldn't make it will have a chance to see it. I couldn't use words to describe it.
I have to say that Ron did a lot of good hits in the double game too.
I feel so sad that I didn't bring my kids with me.

Please check out the tentative roster and the results from the previous season. Please let me know if you can't make it ASAP.
Quite a few players who signed up but can't play the season opening because of the long holiday. Therefore, we do have a few spots for drop-ins. Let me know if you are interested to play. This league is for players of rating greater than 1700. (Either tournament rating OR league rating) Drop-in fee for members is $8 and $10 for non-members.
This week we had 22 participants. A couple of kids could not join because of the flu. Flu season is here so please take care of yourself and your families. We played 53 games this time and 17 out of 53 were won by lower rating players, 32%. That is very close to last week's result. Thanks to Robert Palgon, 2008 US National U-1800 Hard Bat Champion & U-2000 Hard Bat Finalist, sharing his experience about our Point-Handicap League RR. Please click the following link to read http://www.pingpongdojo.com/RoundRobins/roundRobins.htm.

Champion: Winston Chen won $13.2 cash prize
Finalist: Amy Zhong won $8.8 cash prize
