After 3 days of tough competitions, US Open is officially done for Ping Pong
Dojo players.
Not a bad result at all.
JiaQi finished Women's Sinlges in quarter final. She lost to world ranking #33
Dodean Daniela 7th game 10-12. It was a great match and my haert was pounding
during the entire match. JiaQi was down 0:2 but she fought back with 3:2 ahead.
Lost the 6th game, 11-6. In the 7th game, she was ahead 8:5. Dodean called a
time out then had a life saving shot to return JiaQi's forehand smash to her
wide forehand side and placed the ball back to JiaQi's forehand. JiaQi missed
the shot and lost 3 points straight to 8-8. After that, JiaQi called a time
out. She was then down 10:9 and came back with 10:10 deuce. Unfortunately in a
long backhand rally, Dodean got an edge ball to get the lead by 11:10. Last
point JiaQi missed a backhand loop and lost the match. It's really no shame to
lose to world ranking #33 player in 7th game 10:12, but she is very upset. She
could've won. The experience really counts in a match like this. We are looking
for sponsors to sponsor JiaQi to participate more of ITTF events. If you are
interesed, please contact us.
Weijian also finished quarter final in Men's Singles. He was the only US player
in quarter final. He lost to world ranking #33 Crisan Adrian 0:4. However he
beat a 2750 player in 32s. He also finished 2nd place in U-21 Men's Singles.
He defeated a couple of top Indian junior players in this event. In the final
match, he lost to a Korean guy with illegal serves using body to block his
serves. We tried to protest, to argue, but those umpires only "reminded" the
Korean guy. It was a very unfair and disappointed match from our point of view.
Our junior star Diane Jiang won U-11 girl champion. You gotta watch her
fighting spirit to believe how hard a 10-year-old girl can fight.
Congratulations to Diane. To note, Diane is taking 1-on-1 private training
multiple hours/week from Weijian also she is jointly trained at another club.
Another junior, Howard Tung, was doing great on Friday, with his 200 rating he
beat a 900 and 600 player to advance U1000 event. He then lost 2:3 to another
950 guy. I can see he's learning how to play matches now. Good job, Howard.
It could be a better event for us, but we are happy to see the results as this.
Let's keep hard training for another year and come back to Las Vegas next year.
