Very nice pic Kirk! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Gentleman posed with his blackthorn. As noted by the person who
placed the photo up (Daithi - owner of the website), note that it's so
important to him, so much a part of his life, that he'll not
relenquish it even for a formal photograph.

Hey Thug:
My apologies for taking so long to respond.
We have just got the club outfitted and are having the
gui's made up at present. I had a conference call with
the two main guys who will be running the club , and
we all agree that this club has to mature into itself
before it opens itself to the public. It is an
expensive endeavour to outfit yourself let alone have
extra stuff for new people. We also feel that the club
needs to develop it's own experience and style before
it is available on this basis. There are eight members
there, five of which will be competing in the
Heavyweight Open category. The amount of experience
that the two main guys share, is extreme. They will be
ready in no time.
We are all looking forward to the two clubs clashing
in the spring sometime, if you would like I can keep
you posted if you would like to attend. It is not yet
decided if it will be in Edmonton or Vancouver. I am
hoping for Vancouver and so far that is the general
consensus.

These guys are the newly formed M.S.P. Vancouver
Faction.
They are a great group of guys who will be adding much
to our Project. They are tough well disciplined, well
coached and well trained with great desire to keep it
rough. I will be updating our website with a full
video essay on the new faction as soon as I get some
time. We will be holding a round robin tourney this
spring in order to better ourselves through some
healthy competition. I will guarantee that these boys
will be up to the task. I will let the video from the
weekend speak for itself. These guys are serious and
they play for keeps. Notice has been served.

I think we can just assume that sometimes they did not have a knob on
the end. I prefer one with some weight and that forward balance but
perhaps not everyone did.

yeah that is pretty disgusting and sadly pretty common for the period.

there is always that balance between stoutness and weight that needs
to be considered.

I likes his way better :P
sounds nicer
kinda like my "Grand Champion" title
ashida kim gives 40$ black belts in vale tudo
wonder if I can get 10 blackbelts and be a 10th degree black belt?
(I do have 10 belts so you cant argue)
got into a fight with a nutria (very large rodent similar to a beaver or
raccoon on steroids)
apperantly our heroics were cut short to a patented GC (Grand Champion)stab to
the throat
this great warrior of the nutria race was brave enough to grace me with his
violence for 5 rounds before the ill fated stab (thank you great god of the
blade Gerber Knives inc. for the masterpiece fixed bladed belt knife)
watching my opponent retire from under the apple tree that our heroic trials
by combat were judged and praying for his health so that one day again we might
meet again
I comtemplated such a battle as my eyes closed again for the night

Ah! The 19th century , that would probably a ' she-lay-lee ' ( not correct
spelling , can't remember it right now ) , commonly made from blackthorn , very
hard and covered with a lot of knobbly bits , as for it use , step 1 , strike
opponent , step 2 , repeat step 1 , step 3 , repeat steps 1 and 2 until you
achieve desired result !

Hi Gary,
There is plenty of period artwork that show a clun pretty much along
the lines of the one you describe. I don't think any I have seen are
as stout and Brendan Gleesons characters in GoNY but bigger sticks are
definitely more dramatic. The question might be asked how to use them
and I would say pretty much like how we use the longer stick but
without and thought of defence with the butt end.
