The point ends up being a simple Beat and Attack but
it is completely set up in the foot work . Notice how
the footwork gets the momentum going in the counter
clockwise direction and then allows for a change of
direction with no telegraph. The final point almost
seems slow
because of the advantage gained by the reversal of the
weight and momentum. Simple meat and potatoes
fighting.
The avi format allows for great analysis of these
things because you can move the cursor forward and
back and watch things like balance and form slowly.
This clip is a great example of many of the classic
defensive moves such as the high guard, sweep blocks,
check blocks, etc. It is also very clear to see how
we (The M.S.P.) use the upper and lower parts of the
stick for blocking as opposed to only the lower half
like some of the more ardent traditionalists. also
notice the heavy use of simple evasion instead of
dealing with every attack. This bout ends with one
competitor unable to continue after a shot to the
head. Video to come.
