Three things,
One is that we have gotten coaches throughout our league to donate between 10 and 50 dollars to coaches vs. cancer. With coaches from all levels, in all sports ranging from 7th grade through varsity in our 8 league conference, we have usually generated a pretty nice sum. It's not flashy and it's not greatly recognized, but we all know were trying to make a difference.
The second thing we did a few years ago that was great was a donkey basketball game. If you're not familiar, you have coaches, teachers, etc. who ride actual donkeys around the gym while trying to carry on a basketball game. We sold our gym out to the point it was standing room only. It's hilarious and a ton of fun while also bringing in a good chunk of cash.
The last thing you could try is a "celebrity" type basketball game. Here in Michigan, former and
current Detroit Lions players go and play games at high schools vs. the staff and coaches. Half of the money goes to their charity and the other half to the charity of the schools choice. This was probably my favorite one because I got to see the Detroit Lions actually win a game, of course I didn't say that to their faces.
Good Luck, Coach B

This upcoming season I am hoping to get the community involved in our
own mini Coaches vs. Cancer event in where we raise money at all of the
local schools to donate to the American Cancer Society. Then during the
week of the college coaches vs. cancer event, our local basketball
coaching staffs will wear tennis shoes to draw attention to the
fundraiser. What I am asking is, has anybody done anything along these
lines or do you have any helpful ideals. I am in the brainstorming
phase and looking for help. Thanks in advance.
