I was listening to the SD-SF game on my way home last night when Juan Uribe
couldn't handle a grounder by Chase Headley in the eighth inning. Jon Miller,
as the play was happening, described the ball taking a bad hop. It was called
an error, and I wondered if the scorer was leaning a little. I finally saw the
play, and it was no bad hop. It was a short hop Uribe didn't come up with. I
always think those types of plays are tough ones for the fielder, but, unless
it's the first hop on a liner, are expected to come up with them. Good call by
the scorer, David Feldman (and I wouldn't have blamed him if he had leaned a
little in that situation).
As for the backdoor curve that Brian Runge rang up Everth Cabrera to end the
game, I'll leave it to others to offer opinions if he leaned a little.
