You won't realize how much of an honor the award is for me by anything I'll say
in this reply -- thanks, Stew, Art and Bob -- but please know that I know
there's no chance it happens without the Halsey Hall chapter.
I received information and resources -- my footprints can no doubt still be
found on Bob's shoulders -- from several of you. I received encouragement -- may
sound trite but from where I started it was no small thing -- from many more.
And I had wisdom from people like Stew, Dan and Bob in my head as I researched
and wrote. That sort of help can't be quantified.
So, at least in my view, the fact that two of three finalists came from the
Halsey Hall chapter is no coincidence. And if you've read Dan's work I'm sure
you'll agree that the committee must have had a tough decision.

> Congratulations to Tom Swift and Dan Levitt for awards and honors they've
received for their biographies about Chief Bender and Ed Barrow.
>
> Chief Bender's Burden is receiving the 2009 Seymour Medal at the Seymour
Conference in Cleveland later this month. Ed Barrow: The Bulldog Who Built the
Yankees' First Dynasty, by Dan Leviit, was one of three finalists (along with
Chief Bender's Burden and a biography of Hammerin' Hank Chadwick) for the award.

Award from SABR's Deadball Era Committee.
