thanks Meg it is just so frustrating, I have a mare barefoot with me now for 4 yrs and she is a bit cowhocked you could say and gaited she never brushes This new horse is not gaited I took off the shoes as I figured at least the metal won't be hitting the pastern and am still getting a slight hit I rounded the edges so they wouldn't break and was hoping with my very rocky pasture it would tell me where to trim some and I believe it did as a piece of hoof split outa bit so I will start there and I bet taking that edge off will probably balance it out when I get home today will look, What I want to know is why I don't see any sign of previous hitting and why now that I have him I have now had him in my possession for not quite 2 wks. Arghhh. I was worrying about changing too much at one time? Thanks again Liz

Trim to balance Liz. The rest will correct itself. You should be able to look down the back of the foot and it should be level from heel to heel and from heel to toe. I have a QH and a bunch of warmblood mares that toe in a lot. I just rebalance them each time I trim and try to keep it under control. The more often you keep the trim, the better it will remain balanced. I can't change the horse's conformation.
