Hi all,
Been a while since I posted--busy year with a new colt to work and attempting to keeping all the others ridden. I would like some feedback on some booting options for those that have done performance/distance events booted. I began this year in NATRC with my gelding. History on him: 4yo mustang, gathered at 2, never been shod, only trimmed by us for the last year. Because my conditioning area is not real rocky/harsh, I boot him on event rides to give him some protection. I do ride him out on the trails in my area that have some rock, but it's not the faster pace/long distances that I would see at an event. On my last event we lost an Easyboot at around mile 18 of 21 on the first day. Not bad considering we were doing a lot of climbing. But the flats were quit rocky and I was thankful to have the boots on him. On the second day I wrapped his hooves in vetwrap before booting, and that seemed to do the trick. Never lost a one in 14 miles. But he was overdue by about a week and we didn't do a trim right before the event, just in case of boot problems he would have some extra protection on his feet. Now that he's had his bevel touched up, I can't keep the boots on without some amount of hassle. I can condition in Epics (my choice of boot--love 'em!) but I can't use them in NATRC. I have to compete in the regular Easyboots.
So to get down the gritty of it all....... Has anyone used the glue on Marquis boot? Any glue on boots? What were your feelings, thoughts? If we were doing higher mileage, I would look into the easyfoam. But it seems to adhere with a different glue type of structure than the Marquis, and it doesn't come off as well.
Oh and on another interesting note: The vet cards for each event we have done, all have 'unshod' or 'no shoes' marked on them. He received a perfect score of 100 on his last ride, and the vet was very complimentary about him.
Thoughts?
