Well~

We just spent 2 private days with Gene Ovinek in hawaii, we took him
around and he saw the harder horses in our farrier practice and he
worked on 2 of our own. 1 in bad founder condition, and the other
one with hoof wall cracks.....

We have been doing the Arab with hoof wall cracks for 3 years, and to
no avail, he still has them, so we asked Gene to work on him. What
he said was, that our trim was good, it was perfect actually, except
that His foot was not perfect, he is a little pigeioned toed....to
stop making both feet look the same....follow the sole line, only go
down through the chalky layer....one foot sure enough is different
than the other...one heel is a little higher...that is the way he
wants to grow...the hoof cracks are a result of trimming improperly
and putting stress on the wall...just follow your horses sole plane,
you might see that they are different. And heel first landing has
been harder for our horse as well...but with this trim, he landed
heel first.
