I didn't see it. Let me ask you all this. If you think of it in
the following context, does it change your views?:
For the time being, there is no "major league" roller derby. The
pros who drew on decades of experience and participated in a league
that skated venues in major US cities and performed on
television...are no more. The Rollergirls use Roller Derby rules,
but they are not major league; they are semi-pros, who own a stake
in their operations and may or may not draw any salary, and
participate mostly for the camaraderie, the physical exertion, and
the thrill of performing. Their operations are only a few years
old; they only skate a half dozen matches a year. Most of them
don't even use a banked track.
As I've said before, I play in a weekend band. We're pretty good
for what we are, but I surely wouldn't expect someone to come listen
to us and leave saying, "They aren't Garth Brooks." We're not at
the scale, and neither are the Rollergirls.
So, taken from the perspective that the Rollergirls are amateurs
playing the game they like for a couple hundred spectators a few
times a year...does that change your opinion?
