Ultimate Frisbee in Azerbaijan
The Baku “Evil Eyes” represent the latest chapter of a nine-year history of Ultimate Frisbee growth in Azerbaijan. Although games were sporadically and informally played since 1996 in Baku, the team started regular weekly practices in 2002. Originally christened the Baku “Nodding Donkeys” in 2003, the team now consists of over fifty regular players hailing from Azerbaijan, Canada, the U.K., Russia Australia, Germany, Nigeria, Turkey, New Zealand, and the United States. In June 2005, the Evil Eyes won the "Spirit of the Game" trophy in Nizhniy Novgorod and placed 5th overall. We are planning to host a tournament in Baku in 2006.
About Ultimate Frisbee
A fast-paced, friendly and non-contact team sport, the game is played by thousand of women and men all over the world. Started in New Jersey in 1968, Ultimate Frisbee mixes the best features of several sports, including Soccer, Basketball, and American Football into an elegantly simple, yet demanding game. It’s played with a 175g Frisbee (plastic flying disc) and though top-level play requires speed and stamina, the simplicity of the rules make it easy and fun for newcomers to pick up quickly. Most importantly, the sport is governed by “Spirit of the Game,” which emphasizes good conduct and sportsmanship from all players.
