SECTION 7 IS ON THE NORTH/EAST SIDE OF THE PARK BY THE RANGER STATION. ITS A LAID BACK KIND FEEL. EVERYONE IS JUST THIER TO EAT DRINK AND ENJOY A NICE MORNING RUN. NO TIME ON THE RUN JUST GO AT YOUR OWN PACE. WELL THATS THE WAY IT WAS LAST YEAR. ALL YOU NEED TO BRING IS SOMETHING SWEET TO EAT AND AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK OF YOUR CHOICE.

Hola Jonathan,
Hope you enjoyed a wonderful summer. I have a situation that I need help  with, and hoped maybe you might have some suggestions ( even though it involves blading, not running ) I love to rollerblade on the bike path near my home, around Lake Ming. Recently vandals smashed a window on my truck and stole everything inside it while I was blading in the evening.I switched to mornings and have encountered some unsavory ( and scary ) characters out there even at that time of day (6:30 am) . Last week someone hot- wired my truck and stole it from the bike path parking lot! Now I'm parking in Hart Park instead, but still encountering some creeps.Do you know of anyone who runs out here that I might be able to tag along with ? Thanks, see you Monday!

Subject: [bakersfieldtrackclub] Info for local 5K races

Hi! I'm not part of the BTC just yet but have visited the website. I
am trying to find a local 5k to race in but I am having trouble finding
one to register with. The fun run on Oct 13--do I need to sign up for
that? If so, where? Also, I am trying to get registered for the SPCA
5K run that's on Oct 27. I have emailed the person who gives out
information but haven't recieved anything in response to my email. I
believe I emailed them 2 days ago. Where can I find out more
information about registering for 5k races.

Right now, I am in training to complete a 5k. I won't be done until
after October 10th. Any races that are after this date are of interest
to me to join. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks Jonathan for your help! I was considering joining the fun
runs just to see how my time goes and how I do with the race. Sounds
like fun-- hence the name!

Hi Matt

My name is Greg Johnson and I’m one of the Directors of the BTC. I also put out an email for a local group running out of Bagels & Blenders located in the shopping center on the corner of Coffee & Stockdale Hwy.  We just had a BTC meeting last night (the first Wed of every month) and we are very active in the community. We put on or are involved in most of the races in town.  I don’t know what part of town you live in but if you want to come out and run with us? Most of us run from Bagels at 5 am, larger groups of runners are on Mon, Wed, Fri and Saturday’s we run in the hill around Hart Park for a break from the bike path. Hi every one. It's nice to have a local Track Club on the internet. I
was wondering how active is this group online and offline. Do you guys
have meetings, like places where to run, etc?

Gas from Venezuela

We have received many emails in the recent months about boycotting Venezuelian gas.  On a recent trip to Colorado we realized that there were many names out there that we weren’t sure about so when we returned we did some research.  Hope this will clarify.

I have cut and pasted entries.  Please pass this on to others, specially, those who tend to travel or friends and relatives throughout the U.S.A.

The following was just one quote from Chavez:

Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez has vowed to bring down the U.S. government. Chavez, president of Venezuela, told a TV audience: "Enough of imperialist aggression; we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."

The following are companies that purchase and distribute gas originating in Venezuela.  The number after the name is the company’s level of imports.  I have included some of the information that I found online about each of the company.

1)  HOVENSA LLC 10,880,000

HOVENSA, a joint venture between a subsidiary of Hess Corporation and a subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA)

1,250 HESS retail facilities from Massachusetts to Florida. We continue to selectively expand our HESS EXPRESS convenience store network. The HOVENSA refinery in the United States Virgin Islands, a joint venture between a subsidiary of Hess Corporation and a subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), is one of the largest crude oil refineries in the world

2)  CONOCOPHILLIPS CO 7,835,000

HOUSTON, June 26, 2007 --- ConocoPhillips and the Venezuelan government were unable to reach agreement regarding ConocoPhillips’ migration to an Empresa Mixta structure mandated by Venezuela decree law 5.200. Therefore, pursuant to the decree, Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA) or its affiliates will directly assume the activities associated with ConocoPhillips’ interests in the Petrozuata and Hamaca heavy-oil ventures and the offshore Corocoro development project.

While negotiations are continuing between ConocoPhillips and Venezuelan authorities concerning appropriate compensation for the company’s interests, the company expects to record a complete impairment of its entire interest in its oil projects in Venezuela of approximately $4.5 billion, before- and after-tax, in its second-quarter financial results. Although the company is hopeful that the negotiations will be successful, it has preserved all legal rights including international arbitration.

Prior to the expropriation of its interests, ConocoPhillips held a 50.1 percent interest in Petrozuata, a 40 percent interest in Hamaca, and a 32.5 percent interest in Corocoro. At
December 31, 2006
, ConocoPhillips had recorded 1,088 million barrels of oil equivalent of proved reserves related to Petrozuata and Hamaca, and first-quarter 2007 production from these two joint ventures, after application of disproportionate OPEC reductions imposed by the Venezuelan government, averaged 82,000 net barrels per day of crude oil. First-quarter 2007 net income attributable to ConocoPhillips’ Venezuelan operations was $27 million.

Additional information is available in ConocoPhillips’ filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission

**I don’t know how much or if any oil is still coming from Venezuela after Chavez took over all of the oil fields from ConocoPhillips**

3)    CITGO PETRO CORP 6,411,000

4)    LYONDELL CITGO REFG LP 5,774,000

5)    CITGO ASPH REFG CO 3,717,000

In September, 1986, Southland sold a 50 percent interest in CITGO to Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. PDVSA acquired the remaining half of CITGO in January, 1990. With a secure and ample supply of crude oil, CITGO quickly became a major force in the energy arena.

6)    CHALMETTE REFG LLC 2,358,000

7)    VALERO MKTG & SUPPLY/Diamond Shamrock CO 2,199,000

8)    CHEVRON CORP 1,793,000

9)    SUNOCO INC 1,247,000

10)   MARATHON PETRO CO LLC 551,000

11)  TOTAL PETROCHEM USA INC 552,000

12)   FLINT HILLS RESOURCES LP 560,000

13)   SHELL OIL CO 475,000

14)   EXXONMOBIL OIL CORP 412,000

Now, per The Charlotte Observer dated October 17, "Petro Express Incorporated, Charlotte, NC, is phasing out Citgo Petroleum Cooperation gasoline. By next year, the company will no longer sell the brand."

"Petro Express hasn't cited global politics as the reason for the change, but the brand is disappearing from 45 of its 66 locations this year. The company joins convenience store giant 7-Eleven, which this month dumped Citgo at its 2,100 locations."

Our family will try to stay away from the above list as we do not want to support someone that wants to destroy the U.S. with our own money.

Do I have to be a member of the club to race in BTC races? If so, which
races would i need to be a member in order to race? If not, what is the

to do about two BTC races, and am curious about this.

Hi Runners,

This Saturday we have a special run. Greg and Loa, Doug and Barbara and anyone else that would like to join them are camping out at Lake Ming Camp Grounds. We are going to run at 7 AM because of the cold weather that moved in. We should have a nice group with several different distances and pace. Saturday evening there will be a potluck dinner with smoked chicken, so bring a dish and what every you drink and join us.  Bagels will have a group at 6 AM and the BTC Yokuts Park Fun Run will be at 7 AM.

I wanted to let everyone know why my email have been inconsistent lately. I have been working out of town several day per month and this should continue. When I'm in town I will get something out so you know what's going on, other than that you'll have to ask around at Bagels.

See you on the trails.......Greg

WIFE FROM HELL

A police officer pulls over a speeding car. The officer says, " I clocked you at 80 miles per hour, sir."

The driver says, "Gee, officer I had it on cruise control at 60, perhaps your radar gun needs calibrating."

Not looking up from her knitting the wife says: "Now don't be silly dear, you know that this car doesn't have cruise control."

As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks over at his wife and growls, "Can't you please keep your mouth shut for once?"

The wife smiles demurely and says, "You should be thankful your radar detector went off when it did."

As the officer makes out the second ticket for the illegal radar detector unit, the man glowers at his wife and says through clenched teeth, "Damit, woman, can't you keep your mouth shut?"

The officer frowns and says, "And I notice that you're not wearing your seat belt, sir. That's an automatic $75 fine."

The driver says, "Yeah, well, you see officer, I had it on, but took it off when you pulled me over so that I could get my license out of my back pocket."

The wife says, "Now, dear, you know very well that you didn't have your seat belt on. You never wear your seat belt when you're driving."

And as the police officer is writing out the third ticket the driver turns to his wife and barks, "WHY DON'T YOU PLEASE SHUT UP??"

The officer looks over at the woman and asks, "Does your husband always talk to you this way, Ma'am?"

I love this part....

"Only when he's been drinking."

RE: Christmas Party

I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 23, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House. There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks! We'll have a small band playing traditional carols... Feel free to sing along.
And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus! A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00 pm. Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time, However, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets. This gathering is only for employees!

A special announcement will be made by our CEO at that time!

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

RE: Holiday Party

In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees. We recognize that Chanukah is an important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year.

However, from now on we're calling it our "Holiday Party". The same policy applies to any other employees who are not Christians or those still celebrating Reconciliation Day. There will be no Christmas tree present.
No Christmas carols sung. We will have other types of music for your enjoyment. Happy now?

Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table ... you didn't sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that reads, "AA Only", you wouldn't be anonymous anymore. How am I supposed to handle this? Somebody?

Forget about the gifts exchange, no gifts exchange are allowed since the union members feel that $10.00 is too much money and executives believe 10.00 is a little chintzy. NO GIFT EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED.

RE: Holiday Party

What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20 begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs. Perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party- or else package everything for you to take it home in a little foil doggy baggy. Will that work?

Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest from the dessert buffet and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms.

Gays are allowed to sit with each other. Lesbians do not have to sit with Gay men, each will have their own table. Yes, there will be flower arrangements for the Gay men's table. To the person asking permission to cross dress, no cross dressing allowed though.

We will have booster seats for short people. Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet. We cannot control the salt used in the food we urge those of you with high blood pressure to taste first. There will be fresh fruits as dessert for Diabetics, the restaurant cannot supply "No Sugar" desserts. Sorry!

Did I miss anything?!?!?

RE: The F$%*ing Holiday Party

Vegetarians?!?!?!? I've had it with you people!!! We're going to keep this party at the Grill House whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death," as you so quaintly put it, and you'll get your #$%^&*! salad bar, including organic tomatoes. But you know, tomatoes have feelings, too. They scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them scream right NOW! Have a rotten holiday! Drive drunk and die, you hear me!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!

I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Patty Lewis a speedy recovery and I'll continue to forward your cards to her. In the meantime, management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd off with full pay.

Happy Holidays!

Hi Runners,

This is an early note to remind you that this Saturday is our annual Christmas Run that John Rous put on every year. This year its being held at the Double Tree Hotel on Rosedale at 6:00 AM. Just go thru the main entrance and turn left down to one of the meeting rooms. There is a $5 fee to help pay for rooms, Champaign and bring a dish to share if you can. The run will be short and go along the Kern River like last year. We take a group photo after the run and a few mimosas so look Christmassy and bring you smile. The food and company is always great.

Hi Runners,

At last count there were 68 people going to the Las Vegas marathon, either running the full or the half. That's a lot of runners from one town. OH Yea! There is only two people left running the Tucson marathon......Bunch of flaks, right Mike & Lori? Anyway, good luck everyone, hope you all have a PR.

I'm not sure of the runs this weekend but there should be a group running at Bagels at 6:00 AM and I know some are running the hills starting to get ready for Catalina Marathon and our Grand Canyon hike, this should be at 6:00 AM starting from the pistol range at Hart Park.

P.S. Mike, I understand!

A man goes to see the Rabbi. "Rabbi, something terrible is

happening and I have to talk to you about it."

    The Rabbi asked, "What's wrong?"

The man replied, "My wife is poisoning me."

The Rabbi, very surprised by this, asks, "How can that be?"

The man then pleads, "I'm telling you, I'm certain she's poisoning

me, what should I do?" *

*The Rabbi then offers, "Tell you what. Let me talk to her, I'll see *

*what I can find out and I'll let you know."

A week later the Rabbi calls the man and says, "Well, I spoke to

your wife. I spoke to her on the phone for three hours. You want my

advice?" The man said yes and the Rabbi! replied, *

    *"Take the poison."

Double pane energy-efficient

Dear Diary,
Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with those expensive double pane energy-efficient
kind. Then, this week I got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining
that the work had been completed a whole year ago and I still hadn't paid for them.
Now just because I'm blonde doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid. So, I told him just what his fast talking Sales guy had told me last year.... Namely, that in ONE YEAR these windows would pay
for themselves! Helllooooo? It's been a year!
There was only silence at the other end of the line, so I finally Just hung up.
He didn't call back. Bet he felt dumb

Becoming Illegal (From a Maryland resident to his senator)

       The Honorable Paul S. Sarbanes
       Senate Office Building
       309 Hart
       Washington DC, 20510

       Dear Senator Sarbanes,

As a native Marylander and excellent customer of the Internal
Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have
contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine
the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen
to illegal alien stem from the bill which was recently passed by the
Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's
provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the
United
 States
for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a
$2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a
good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started
 before everyone figures it out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay
taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years
of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can
apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result
for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local
emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped
paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save
almost $10,000 a year. Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be
that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law
school applications, as well as "in-state" tuition rates for many
colleges throughout the United States for my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the
burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car
insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have
college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become
illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I
would be most appreciative Thank you for your assistance.

       Your Loyal Constituent,

       Pete McGlaughlin
