Subject: [bakersfieldtrackclub] northeast bluffs/trails
Hi Everyone,
Since General Holding
has finally completed their Environmental Impact Report, things should start
heating up again regarding the bluffs trails issues. Once their EIR is
approved, then they can receive final approval on their proposed project. Even
with the current state of the market, that map will remain in effect for many
years, so we need to look at the EIR carefully and make sure it is something
that we can live with and not something full of problems that will waste
taxpayer money down the line. Additionally, the recent ruling regarding the
Hillside Development Ordinance could have a negative effect on the entire city,
so we may need to contact our councilmembers on that issue.
I have been looking
at my email distribution list, and I have 2-3 incorrect addresses. If you think
you are on my list and haven’t received an email from me in the past week, then
I do not have your correct address. If you would like to be on my list, please
send me an email letting me know. I send email occasionally, as developments in
the bluffs warrant.
For those of you who
don’t know me, or are new to the list(s), I am a long-time runner and co-chair
of the Bakersfield Bluffs and Open Space Committee. For over seven years, we have
worked with the city of Bakersfield and private property owners to preserve
trails as the bluffs of northeast Bakersfield are developed. We believe that
houses and trails can co-exist in a way that is beneficial to everyone. If you
love running in the foothills, (Mr. Toad’s course, Kern River Trail Run,
Bakersfield Triathlon etc.) then you will probably want to be involved, even if
it is just an occasional letter or phone call to your councilmember.
Happy Trails!
Michelle Beck
