As I was telling Rick and Ryan on Thursday: there are about a thousand
variations on each of our kicks and each variety has it's purposes.
There is no value in getting hung up on the "right" or "traditional"
way to do things, particularly when you consider that "traditional"
karate didn't have roundhouse or hook kicks or any of those fancy
things. Even our side kick was no higher than the knee traditionally.
Times change, folks learn new stuff and we adapt.

The Kyokushin folks call this the "Brazilian kicks", odd because it is
actually a "traditional" Muy Thai kick and Mas Oyama borrowed from Muy
Thai when he created Kyokushin. I have old video of Thai boxers
knocking people out using this technique: the striking of the juncture
of the neck and shoulder seems to be very devestating.
