Our summer social season is about to begin! Barbeques on the dock,
Friday nights out on the deck, gig races in August - all of which
require the use of the Scull & Sweep room. The maintenance of the
S&S falls upon the rowing members - we're the ones that use it for
our social events. To that end, we're looking for someone who would
take the lead in getting a group of volunteers to get the room ready
for the summer. This is not a glamorous job (I spent a day last
spring doing it with help from Christine Schiffer), but one that
needs to be done.
Here is a list of some basic tasks:
- clean out refrigerator and freezer (clean the refrig, throw out any
food, old soda)
- organize and clean the shelving underneath the counter (remove bins
and re-organize contents of bins - throw out any paper products that
are loose given that mice/rats may have run across them over the
winter months, put sugar and any other loose food items in closed
containers)
- clean sinks and cabinet underneath sink
- give the room a thorough vacuuming and dusting
- sweep the deck; get out plastic chairs and tables and wash them
As I said, not glamorous.
So, we're asking for a volunteer to get a group together to get the
room in shape. Hopefully, this can be done before Saturday June 16
which is when we officially kick-off our summer social season with
the Schuylkill Navy Regatta barbeque.
As an aside, we will be placing a list of "do's" and "don't's" in the
S&S room so that no matter who uses the room - rowers or a renter for
a private party - knows what to do to keep the room clean.
Thanks in advance for your willingness to help!
